Luther College Director of Athletics Renae Hartl has announced Nicole Kaupp has been named Head Coach of the Luther College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. She will begin her duties on April 1, 2016.
Kaupp, a 2006 graduate of Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon, joins the Norse athletic program from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, where she has been the assistant swimming and diving coach since August 2009.
Prior to her seven years at Washington University, she was the assistant swimming and diving coach at Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, from 2006-2008 and then served as the interim head coach for one year.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Nicole Kaupp join our athletic department at Luther College,” stated Hartl. “She has an impressive Division III background at Washington University and will be able to hit the ground running in the coming weeks. She has a firm grasp of what it takes to lead our swimming and diving teams and an intellectual curiosity that will complement the existing culture within our successful program.”
During her time at Washington University, Kaupp helped coach 41 All-Americans that earned 160 All-American honors, including five national championships.
“I am very honored and excited to be named the next swimming and diving coach at Luther College,” commented Kaupp. “Luther College has a reputation of excellence and success, both as a Liberal Arts College and as an athletic department. I am excited to be a part of this program and to continue to help guide its path to excellence. I was thoroughly impressed by the staff at Luther and even more so by the student-athletes. I am looking forward to working with a group of bright, motivated, passionate and caring individuals.”
“I would like to thank Director of Athletics Renae Hartl, President Carlson, and the entire search committee for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get started!”
