Making the decision to travel across the state this fall to continue her swimming career, Lutnya Bogdanova of Lakeland, Florida has announced her decision to swim at the University of West Florida. Bogdanova is currently in her senior year at Lakeland Senior High School and does her club swimming with Riptide Aquatics.
“The big day is here. After such a long time of deciding, processing & thinking amongst myself & family, I am so thrilled to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my athletic & academic career at University of West Florida !!! Huge thank you’s to my support system in everything I do out there in the world & for never batting down on me. I would not be where I am at today without you all. Go Argonauts !!!!⚔️💚💙”
Since that meet, she has reset her personal best times in nearly all of her events. In February at the Riptide Aquatics Winter Open, she swam new best in the 100 free (53.98), 200 free (1:56.95), 500 free (5:20.46), 100 back (1:00.44), and 200 back (2:15.35). A month later she also picked up new bests in the 200 breast (2:21.95) and 200 fly (2:08.57).

The West Florida Argonauts are coming off of their third straight New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference title and concluded their 2021-22 season by finishing in 12th at the NCAA DII Championships. The team was led by a pair of seniors, with Ester Rizzetto finishing third in the 100 free and Kelsey DeJesus claiming a pair of medals on the diving boards. The team’s highest returning finisher from the it’s NCAA Championships team last season will be Stefanie Markwardt, a junior, who took 17th in the 100 fly.
While Bogdanova will provide solid depth across all of her events to the Argonauts, her biggest contribution will likely come in the 200 breast. Last season, her time would have ranked her as the program’s third fastest in the event. The team was led in that race by Brooke Simila, who will be entering her junior year this fall. Simila finished 23rd in the event at the NCAA Championships.
Bogdanova will join Ellie Rothfuss, Laci Herron, Sydney Dawson, Amber Ewald, Amanda Serger, Shannah Dillman, and Tori Johnston as a member of the class of 2026.
