Maccabiah Games Gold Medalist Morgan Smith Commits to William & Mary

Morgan Smith from the Montclair Kimberly Academy and Cougar Aquatic Team in Montclair, New Jersey, has verbally committed to the College of William and Mary.

She will look to bolster the William & Mary distance group in the Colonial Athletic Association: an area where the Towson Tigers have locked down the conference for years.

Smith’s best yards times are 4:51.95/10:03.24/16:50.86 in the 500/1000/1650 freestyles. She also adds strong times of 2:06.50 and 4:25.50 in the 200 and 400 yard IM’s.

In those distance freestyles specifically, Towson last season had the 6 fastest women in both the 500 free and the 1650 free. Smith’s best time in that 500 free would’ve broken that strangle-hold, and her best time in the 1650 would’ve been 7th-best in the conference.

Last season, Towson road that distance group to a conference title, while William & Mary, with the best sprint group in the conference, took 3rd. In total, Smith is faster than William & Mary’s best in the 500 free, 1650 free, and the 400 IM, and should be at least a 30-point conference scorer as a freshman.

Smith is a five-event MKA School Record holder, and this past summer she was the 2nd-highest scoring female swimmer at the Buffalo Super Sectional meet in long course.

She also represented the United States at the 2013 Maccabiah Games, where she won 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

She trains with the Cougar Aquatic Team under Patrick Collins.
