All signs point to Australia’s St. Peters Western Swimming Club doing the right things in training, as 4 out of the top 9 females in the women’s 200m freestyle final tonight at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Santa Clara originate from the squad. Among them is 22-year-old Madison Wilson, who will be making her Olympic debut in Rio this summer after earning a spot on the Aussie roster in the women’s 100m backstroke.
Get to know the outgoing personality this young talent possesses as Wilson describes her training regimen headed into the Olympic Games. In the video, get a snapshot of all her body goes through during her weekly routine that includes roughly 9 swim sessions, 3 gym sessions and 2 yoga sessions.
All the work helped the Aussie win silver in the women’s 100m backstroke behind teammate Emily Seebohm at last year’s World Championships Kazan. Coached by Michael Bohl as part of “Bohly’s Squad”, Wilson is among elite athletes such as Mitch Larkin, Emma McKeon, Bronte Barratt and Maddie Groves, all of whom are in attendance at the Pro swim in Santa Clara this week.
Wilson has already set the stage for a successful meet, having clocked a time of 1:58.45 to finish in 5th place overall in the women’s 200m freestyle. That outing represented a major move up from her incoming seed of 11th place. She’s slated to also swim the 50m free, 100m free, 100m back and 200m back while competing in California this weekend.
