One of the top distance swimmers in the ACC, Florida State junior Madison Jacobi, isn’t on the psych sheets for this weekend’s ACC Championship meet in Atlanta, Georgia, which will cost the Seminoles upward of 70 points in projected scoring for the meet.

Last year, as a sophomore, Jacobi broke the Florida State school records in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles, and was 3rd in the 500 free and 3rd in the 1650 free at the ACC Championships. In total, she scored 71 points individually and was also the anchor (and easily fastest leg) of the Seminoles’ 3rd-place 800 free relay.

She would have been favored to place 2nd in both the 500 and 1650 frees this season, behind Virginia’s Leah Smith. Without her, the Seminoles have also now lost three of the four members of that 800 free relay from last season. Even with Jacobi, that relay was only ranked 10th out of 12 teams so far in 2014-2015.

Jacobi’s last meet for the Seminoles was their January 3rd dual meet against Florida, where she swam 5:06 in the 500 free and 10:26 in the 1000. She then missed the team’s duals against Louisville and Florida Gulf Coast.

Florida State’s media relations department has not responded to a request for comment or to explain if a last chance meet was a possibility for Jacobi. Thus far, she has no NCAA “B” standard times, and therefore would not be eligible for selection to the NCAA Championships in an individual event.

Her only times posted this semester were 5:06 & 10:26… Maybe she’s just not fast enough to represent FSU this year.

I agree. FSU has always been a sprint program but the small distance program they have had been going downhill in recent years.

FSU distance has been totally the opposite of NC State’s in recent years… One answer to that: Gary Taylor!

Absolutely agree with that one. Things have not been the same at either school since Taylor switched. Except for one NCAA scoring swim, FSU distance has not produced. NCSU distance on the other hands, is pulling out some incredible swims. Especially this season.

After many months of illness, Madison was just diagnosed with lupus.
