While swims fans have been treated to some fast swimming this past week at the European Championships, top-notch US swimmers have been looking sharp three weeks out from the USA’s Olympic Trials.
Case in point: tonight, former Texas Longhorn Madisyn Cox came up big with a 2:08.51 in the 200 IM. That time makes her the fastest women in the world so far in 2021, ahead of the 2:08.73 Australian Kaylee McKeown clocked a week ago at the Sydney Open. McKeown was slightly faster last December, having gone 2:08.23.
Cox’s time tonight also moves her to #3 all-time among US women, jumping her up from #8.
All-Time Time US Performers, Women’s 200 IM
- Ariana Kukors – 2:06.15
- Kathleen Baker – 2:08.32
- Madisyn Cox – 2:08.51
- Melanie Margalis – 2:08.70
- Maya DiRado – 2:08.79
From that list, Cox, Baker, and Margalis should all clash in this event in just a few weeks, vying for the top two places that’ll earn them an Olympic berth in this event.
But that was far from the only fast swim in Austin tonight. Current Longhorn Carson Foster put up a 1:58.27 in the 200 IM that makes him the 4th-fastest man in the US this season, behind only Michael Andrew, Chase Kalisz, and Andrew Seliskar. That’s also the 2nd-fastest time of Foster’s career, behind only his 1:57.59 from the 2019 U.S. Open.
The men’s 100 back looked like it would be a great race tonight after four men went 55s this morning, but tonight Shaine Casas dominated the field, winning by two seconds with a 53.26. That’s tied for his 3rd-fastest swim ever, and puts him only behind Ryan Murphy (52.95) and Justin Ress (53.00) in the US rankings this season.
Texas A&M’s Taylor Pike came out on top in a strong field in the women’s 200 fly, winning in 2:09.85, a new lifetime best, and putting her in the top ten among US women this year. Former Georgia Bulldog and 2016 Olympian Gunnar Bentz, now training with the Texas pro group, won the men’s 200 fly in 1:57.64, tying him with Zach Harting for the 4th-fastest time among US men this year.
German national Anna Elendt clocked a 1:07.34, just off of her lifetime best of 1:07.17 from April’s German Olympic Trials, as she tunes up to be part of Germany’s Olympic team. Stanford’s Daniel Roy came up big in the men’s 100 breast, popping a lifetime best of 1:00.88 that puts him inside the top ten among US men this season.
There was a small Cal contingent at this meet, including 18 year-old Isabelle Stadden, who got in on the lifetime best action by going 59.33 in the 100 back. That’s her first best time in the event since she lead off the medley relay in 59.69 at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Any idea if there’s any race video from the Day 3 Finals of this meet?
As she is an aspiring Physician I like to imagine Madisyn’s voice and personality exactly like that of Dr. Cox, i.e. “Listen up here barbie, if you think I’m gonna let someone like you chase me down on the last 50 you are gonna have a Re-HE-he-HE-ally bad time with that”
Thanks, now you have me trying to match US national teamers to the entire cast of Scrubs.
Lochte is The Todd
Congratulations Taylor Pike on the 200 Fly win.
Great swim.
Outstanding splits.
Best to come in Omaha.
I don’t think the vaccine had any impact on her performance.

Me too I’ve been trying to Google it but no results
It’s on meet mobile abbey was 24.61 twice
Ok. Whatever happened to the Cox-Farris romance? Mortals-immortals not aloud to procreate anymore?
Since you called someone else out in this thread I gotta do the same: it’s ‘allowed’
She’s been killing it and he hasn’t done anything special this year. Maybe she stole his magic which is very girlboss of her
Cox is Queen!
That’s not a lifetime best for Elendt – she went 1:07.17 at German trials
