Mads Hansen Returns To Denmark To Coach At National Training Centre

Former University of Calgary swim coach Mads Hansen has returned to his home country of Denmark in order to accept a coaching position at the National Training Centre in Copenhagen.

Hansen was also a board member of the Canadian Swim Coaches & Teachers Association, a position he has since resigned from due to his move to Denmark. The CSCTA said in their last news letter, “we would like to thank Mads for his work and commitment to the CSCTA while her served as a Board member for the Association.”

Hansen spent the last five years in Canada, receiving a degree in physical education and specializing in biomechanics during his time as a coach with the University of Calgary. The move comes after Canadian coach Dean Boles, known for his latest role as a Swim Ontario Provincial Coach, was named the national coach in Denmark. Hansen will be working with Boles.

Hansen will also be working with Martin Truijens who is another coach at the National Training Centre in Copenhagen. He officially began his new position on January 1st, 2017 after moving to Denmark in December.

Translated from Danish, Hansen said, “I have always been fascinated by the process Danish swimmers and coaches go through when they repeatedly achieving world-class performance and impresses far beyond Denmark‘s border. I am excited to be part of the process and continue to contribute new perspectives and input from swimming in North America. At NTC is currently a very strong environment to build on, and I very much look forward to working with an international trainer profile as Martin Truijens.
