Maggie Berning Changes Commitment from Ohio to Nebraska

Maggie Berning, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, has changed her commitment from Ohio University (which we wrote about here) to the University of Nebraska. She announced via social media:

“Given the opportunity to rethink my previous decision, I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of Nebraska! So excited to be apart [sic] of the husker family this fall!!!! #GoBigRed ?”

Berning swims for Dayton Raiders and Kettering Fairmont. Since the start of senior year, she has improved her SCY times in the 100/200/500/1650 free and 200 fly. She placed 6th in the 500 free and 8th in the 200 free at the 2018 OHSAA Division I Swimming & Diving State Tournament, and was a top-8 finisher in the 200 fly at Winter Junior Nationals East. Berning had a strong LCM season last year, which she capped off at NCSA Summer Swimming Championships with new times in the 200/400/1500 free, 200 back, and 100/200 fly. Her best SCY times are:

  • 200 fly – 1:59.34
  • 100 fly – 55.66
  • 50 fly – 25.70
  • 1650 free – 16:48.62
  • 500 free – 4:54.34
  • 200 free – 1:51.91
