High school junior Kaitlyn Weightman from Montgomery, Texas has announced her verbal commitment to the University of New Mexico for 2022-23. She wrote on social media:
“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim & study at the University of New Mexico. Huge thanks to my family, friends, teammates, teachers, and coaches for believing in me and supporting me through the years! Can’t wait to be in Albuquerque! #GoLobos 🐺”
Weightman swims for Magnolia Aquatic Club and Montgomery High School. She specializes in freestyle and backstroke and is a four-time individual qualifier for the Texas UIL 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships. At the 2021 state meet, she placed 6th in the 200 free (1:54.73) and anchored the 10th-place 200 free relay (24.45) and 12th-place 400 free relay (53.44).
Weightman had logged a number of best times in early 2020 before the pandemic closed pools. In her sophomore year high school season, she went best times in the 500 free at the UIL 5A State Meet (5:06.02) and in the 200 free at Regionals (1:54.04). At 2020 College Station Sectionals, she went lifetime bests in the SCY 50 free and 100/200 back and the LCM 100 free. Last fall, she improved her 100y free PB at a MAC dual meet.

Weightman plans to begin in the fall of 2022.
