Mallory Weggemann – The Journey of New Mobility Part 2

This video was provided to SwimSwam courtesy of  The Factory Agency.

The message below is courtesy of Mallory Weggemann:

The past few weeks as I have started to learn how to use my leg braces have been an incredible journey, I feel so fortunate for this experience and I know it wouldn’t be possible without the support from all of you!  Since getting my leg braces at the beginning of the month I have been able to start working on learning how to use them, and as much work as it has been and will continue to be, it is so incredibly exciting!  Since I am unable to use or regain the function from my paralysis level down we have been working very hard to use my upper body (arms and upper core) to help with the assistance of my customized leg braces to take steps for the first time.

Below is a video that I put together just to quickly show all of you my braces and how they work.  You will notice there is a device called an Up and About, this device is what helps act as my hips since I don’t have any muscle function or control in them.  It has been absolutely amazing seeing the level of technology that went into making these braces, and the orthotists who got incredibly creative to make sure that they were able to produce braces that would work for me.

There will be more videos to follow but this gives all of you an idea of what the braces are like and how they work.

Thank you for all of your continued support!! 🙂

All the best,

Mallory

On January 21, 2008 at 18 years old, Mallory Weggemann became paralyzed. Since that day she has dreamed of one day walking again, but in order to make that a reality she needs your help. Please continue to follow Mallory in her dream by visiting the campaign website (http://igg.me/at/againstallodds/x/404…).

This video has been put together to continue documenting Mallory’s journey towards upward mobility by showcasing her customized leg braces following her recent therapy appointment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
