The 2022 FINA Short Course World Championships are nearly upon us, with action beginning on December 13th in Melbourne, Australia. Now we know the French roster set to descend upon the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
A 20-strong line-up is comprised of 11 men and 9 women, led by big guns Maxime Grousset, Florent Manaudou, Mewen Tomac, Charlotte Bonnet, Melanie Henique, and Beryl Gastaldello.
The 2021 edition of the Championships saw France finish 22nd in the overall swimming medal standings, with Gastaldello’s silver in the women’s 100m IM as the sole piece of hardware.
This time around, Manaudou looks primed to do some damage in the sprint freestyle events, while Grousset also seems poised to build on his 50m freestyle bronze and 100m freestyle silver from this summer in Budapest.
Missing from the men’s lineup is young dynamo Leon Marchand, with the Arizona State University standout remaining stateside rather than venturing to Australia.
For the women, Analia Pigree will look to carry the momentum from her 50m backstroke bronze from Budapest while Henique will do the same from her 50m fly silver this summer.
Of note, national record holder Marie Wattel is absent from the French lineup for Melbourne.
