We’ve gotten a ton of questions over the past few months about the exact location of the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center for those of our readers who plan on attending the meet and might want to strategically map out their hotel and restaurant accommodations. Good news! With the help of one of our friends, Tony Baker, we’ve been able to pin down the organizing committee into sending us an exact map outlining the pool’s location. (More after the picture).

That clears it all up, right? Well, not really. Luckily we were able to put that location into Google Maps and get a much better picture of where the pool is actually located.
Notice below that Google hasn’t updated their maps to reflect the newly built infrastructure leading to and from the pool. The road on the far left of the map above is identified as “YanJiang Highway” on the map below. The actual location of the facility will be where the Google Map below says “Yaojiache”. If you open up the larger google map, you can even click (in the upper right hand corner) an option to add transit (subway) routes, which will definitely be your friend as Shanghai has some of the worst traffic in the world.

I recommend overseas swim fans stay in the Lujiazui area (line 2), PuDong Avenue area (line 4), Nanpu Bridge/Xizang Nan Lu (also line 4) or People’s Square (The main metro cross over). The Metro system is easy to use in Shanghai and you should be at the Swimming centre within 20 minutes. Shanghai taxi’s are also abundant and affordable.
I have recommended these areas as the area around the swimming centre isn’t one of the more happening places in Shanghai.
Other areas of interest:
Henshan Lu (line 1) – The main bar area
Tianzifan Centre (restaurant’s, bars, old style shops)
Xintiendi (a place to go if you have money … for food and drinks).

The line you’re looking at is the #8 line (in blue). The pool is located just southwest of where that hits the #7 (orange) line. I would say that the best stops are either that Chengshan stop or the Yangsi stop, but I will try to confirm.
