Day 2 prelims of the NASA Showcase Classic age group meet in Clearwater, Florida saw the younger age brackets dominated by a few of the same names. Vinny Marciano took two more top seeds for tonight’s 12-year-old heats, while Joy Jiang and Johnny Bradshaw combined for top seeds in all four 10 & under events.
Marciano leads the 200 IM and 50 back for Morris County Swim Club. The 12-year-old went 2:05.19 to take top billing in the IM race, and came back to go 24.91 in the 50 back. Tonight he’ll look to break the tie on the National Age Group record board in that event between he and Destin Lasco at 24.56.
Joy Jiang swept the 10 & under events last night, and she leads both coming out of this morning’s session. The 10-year-old from Westchester Aquatic Club went 1:04.57 for the 100 IM’s top seed, then returned to lead the 50 fly at 28.12. The 9 & Under heats are also led by the same swimmer, Nova’s Zoe Dixon, who went 1:09.40 in the IM and 29.10 in the butterfly.
It’s the same story for the boys, with last night’s double-winner Johnny Bradshaw putting up the fastest 10-year-old times and Joshua Zuchowski leading the 9 & unders. Bradshaw leads the 100 IM for The Fish by three seconds at 1:04.61, whilei Zuchowski went 1:07.66 for top 9 & under billing. In the 50 fly, Bradshaw sits first at 28.49 (though Lance Godard of the Kansas City Blazers is right behind) and Zuchowski went 29.26, the only 9-year-old under 30.
Michael Andrew leads the 50 back for the 13-14 division. He went 22.53, but could have a shot at cracking the 22-second barrier for the first time tonight after winning three races a night ago.
One great race shaping up in the 13-14 division is in the girls 200 IM. 14-year-olds Olivia Paoletti and Kristen Romano will clash for the title after each won an event last night: Paoletti the 50 breast and Romano the 200 back. Paoletti leads for Delaware Swim Team at 2:07.31 with Romano sitting second at 2:08.18.
A few other names to watch tonight: 11-year-old Chase Travis out of Delaware Swim Team leads two 11-year-old heats tonight, the 200 IM (2:14.22) and 200 fly (2:16.72). Also, last night’s 200 back and 50 breast winner Christopher Hardt is the top seed in the boys 11-year-old 200 IM at 2:12.43, just ahead of day 1 50 free/1000 free champ Leo Goldblatt.

MA is a very good swimmer. Even though he is still 14 yrs old, why compete with the amateurs ?

Oh ok thanks for the heads up. He should be taking the prelim swims easy since he’s pretty much a shoe in at this meet.
Why didnt MA do any other events besides the 50 back? I thought he would for sure do the 200 fly.
Dam, was looking forward to it. Hope he does the 400 IM on Saturday. I think he can drop a ton of time off of his current 3:52 personal best
MA swam the 200 fly in prelims- 1:50.46. Probably taking it “easy” for a big finals night.
