Marie Wattel Breaks French Record in 50 Fly Again in Finals

2019 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

French butterflyer Marie Wattel finished 5th in the final of the women’s 50 fly in Gwangju. Wattel clocked a 25.50, clipping her own French National Record of 25.56, which she had set in semifinals the night before. She was also just .03 seconds from 3rd place, which Egyptian Farida Osman nabbed.

Before Wattel, who is 22 years old, broke the French Record in semifinals, the record was held at 25.63 by Melanie Henique. Wattel has now moved up to a 3-way tie for 13th fastest performer all time. She shares that ranking with American Dara Torres and Inge Dekker of the Netherlands.
