Marist Men Win Thriller To Spoil Lehigh’s Home Finale; Mountain Hawk Women Down Red Foxes

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women’s swimming and diving rolled to a 192.5-105.5 win against Marist in the home finale Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool. While this was the Mountain Hawks first meet since Dec. 2 due to winter break, this did not slow them down. 

“The coaches are extremely proud of our team’s effort and their commitment,” said head coach Rob Herb. “This is evident in their schoolwork, and it is absolutely transferring into our success and our future successes.” 

Lehigh recorded 13 first-place finishes. Lehigh’s 400-yard medley relay team of Willa WerwaissDanielle PrekopSarah Hardy and Noel Fresa swam to a first-place finish with a time of 3:53.75. 

Hardy, Fresa and Werwaiss did not stop at the relays as they all picked up multiple wins against the Red Foxes. Sarah Hardy was outstanding as she won three events. 

Hardy swam to a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.49), the 100-yard butterfly (57.84) and the 200-yard IM (2:09.11).

Werwaiss also won multiple events. She came in first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.55) and first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.32). 

Fresa won the 50-yard (24.35) freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle (52.94). Finishing behind her in both events was Caitlin Deitch, who had a bright day despite not winning any events. 


Deitch tallied a second-place mark in the 50-yard freestyle (24.60), the 100-yard freestyle (53.36) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.90).

Mairin Ludwig was the fourth Mountain Hawk to win multiple events. Ludwig won the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.67) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.70). Ludwig also added four more points for Lehigh with a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:11.19).

Caitlin Hofmann picked up the first win of her collegiate career, winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.27)

Once again, Lehigh swept the one-meter and three-meter dives. Sarah Gill dove to a first-place finish in the one-meter dive after scoring 248.55 points. Teammate Kate Whitaker took third with 237.23 points. Whitaker also won the three-meter dive after scoring 262.80 points. Gill was right behind Whitaker as she took second with 240.00 points.

Lehigh will close up its dual slate against Bucknell on Jan. 27 in Lewisburg, Pa. 

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Trying to pick up a win in its first meet back since winter break, the Lehigh men’s swimming and diving fell just short, suffering a 140-139 loss to Marist Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool in the home finale.

“On paper, we were expected to lose by almost 40 points,” said head coach Rob Herb. “Our men put everything on the table and just fell by one point. We have so much to be proud of in this effort.”

It all came down to the relays, which Lehigh placed first in the 400-yard medley relay, but the Red Foxes won the 400-yard freestyle relay to help pull off the victory on Saturday.

The 400-yard medley relay group of Ben Kisker, Jack Devilbiss, Aaron Williams and Tim Norris captured a victory after finishing in first with a time  of 3:26.00.

Williams and Kisker both tallied individual wins for Lehigh. Kisker won both the 100-yard backstroke (51.55) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.56). Williams won the 50-yard freestyle (21.61).

Junior diver Jack Grotke picked up his first collegiate wins on Saturday as he won the one-meter dive (140.78) and the three-meter dive (149.25 points). 

Connor Goodyear scored 10 individual points for Lehigh as he tallied a second-place mark in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.30) and two third-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.53) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.79). 

First-year Carson Morris added eight more points for Lehigh with second-place marks in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.94) and the 200-yard breastroke (2:09.12). 

The Mountain Hawks had a two-three-four punch in the 100-yard freestyle, with Sean Davis taking second (10:11.96), Owen Highinbotham taking third (10:15.65), and Alfredo Figeuroa finishing it off in fourth (10:33.33)

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up the dual meet slate on Jan. 27 at Bucknell.

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania- The Marist men’s swim and dive team won in thrilling fashion over Lehigh, Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes started the new year with a 140-139 win, led by Ethan McCormac with four first-place finishes.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Adam Zaremba placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle in the win over Lehigh (10:07.17).
    • Zaremba earned a second first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.28).
  • Ethan McCormac reached the podium in the 200-yard freestyle. McCormac earned gold against Lehigh with a time of 1:41.41.
    • McCormac also earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in the win (46.81).
    • McCormac placed first in the 100-yard butterfly in the win over Lehigh (49.93).
  • Jack Cimorelli placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke in the win (58.42).
    • Cimorelli placed first in the 200-yard IM, leading to two first-place finishes in the meet (1:56.22).
  • The men’s relay team consisting of Ethan McCormacAdrian BankowskiChristopher Dauser, and Tim Engel placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:07.34).
RECORDS
  • The Red Foxes improved to 4-1 on the 2023-24 season and 2-0 in MAAC play.
  • Lehigh falls to 1-6 overall on the season.

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania- The Marist women’s swim and dive team dropped its year-opening meet against Lehigh, Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes fought till the end but fell to the Mountain Hawks 192.5-105.5.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Maddie Healey reached the podium in the 1000-yard freestyle for the Red Foxes. Healey finished first in the race with a 10:46.74 time.
    • Healey finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in the meet (5:15.19).
  • April Avila placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Red Foxes (1:06.62).
    • Avila finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke, leading to two podium finishes (2:29.67).
  • Kyra Cavicchi placed second in the one-meter dive (246.60) in the meet against Lehigh.
  • The women’s relay team consisting of Nellie ThompsonMargaret HartmanSophia Swanson, and Rian Dickman placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:39.37).
RECORDS
  • The Red Foxes fall to 2-3 on the 2023-24 season in the meet against Lehigh, but remain 2-0 in MAAC play.
  • Lehigh improved to 4-3 overall on the season.
