Student-athletes from Kansas, TCU and West Virginia were honored with this week’s swimming and diving weekly awards. Andrew Marsh (West Virginia) and Chelsie Miller (Kansas) were recognized with the swimming awards, while Alex Obendorf (West Virginia) and Kristen Connolly (TCU) garnered the diving awards.
The honors mark the first weekly awards of the season for all four.
MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Marsh, West Virginia, Sr., Bemus Point, N.Y.
Marsh notched four individual wins and three relay wins taking first in all events entered in against Xavier and Seton Hall. The senior posted a 22.51 time in the 50 backstroke and 1:39.28 in the 200 free. He took first in the 100 fly by 1.72 seconds and won the 100 back in 48.45. The Bemus Point native also helped WVU to victory in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 medley relay.
WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Chelsie Miller, Kansas, Sr., Houston, Texas
Miller put forth an impressive performance, earning six first place finishes in eight races swam. The Houston native currently ranks 15th in the nation in the 400-yard IM after turning in a time of 4:18.37 against Denver and Missouri State. Additionally, the swim broke a Kansas pool record. Miller took first in the 200 fly, 200 IM and 500 free in the double dual and the 200 fly and 500 free against TCU.
MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Alex Obendorf, West Virginia, So., Hudson, Ohio
Obendorf posted season-best scores on the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive en route to a top finish on the higher board and second place finish on the 1-meter board. The sophomore registered a 324.80 on the 3-meter dive and a 315.25 on the 1-meter dive.
WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Kristen Connolly, TCU, Sr., San Antonio, Texas
Connolly swept the two diving events in a recent conference match against Kansas. The senior tallied a 258.97 on the 1-meter dive and 270.60 on the 3-meter dive, both enough to secure the top podium position. This season, Connolly has secured first place in four events thus far.
