Marshall Swimming Signs Sirena Rowe

Huntington, W.Va. – Sirena Rowe, a senior at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, N.C., has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at Marshall University, Marshall coach Bill Tramel announced Tuesday.

Rowe swims for Coach Mark Dell at North Mecklenburg Aquatics. She recently competed at the 2015 Winter Junior National Championships, where she achieved a lifetime best 23.33 in the 50-yard freestyle.

“I really love the coaches, the team, the campus, and honestly everything,” Rowe said. “I really felt like I belonged on my visits there and I’m so excited to call Marshall my next home. Go Herd!”

While the 50 freestyle is her primary event, Rowe also holds best times of 52.62 in the 100 yard freestyle and 57.94 in the 100 yard backstroke.

“Sirena is our type of person,” Tramel said. “We spent a lot of time getting to know Sirena and her family during their visits to campus. Sirena’s mother and father are two amazing parents and it shows in their daughter. She was immediately loved by our team and the fact that she is applying for a Yeager Scholarship at Marshall University identifies her as a top tier student. Sirena also has dual citizenship (Colombia) which may lead to an opportunity to compete internationally.”

Tramel also said he is excited to see what Rowe can accomplish with Marshall’s group of sprinters.

“We are really building a pretty fast sprint program here at Marshall University. (Assistant Coach) Ian (Walsh) is doing a fantastic job developing our sprinters. Now adding Sirena and Catherine (Bendziewicz) to our already quick, young sprint squad is very exciting.”

Rowe is the second member of the Marshall swimming and diving recruiting class of 2020.

The Herd is slowly building a very strong Mid-Major squad. Huge improvement in the last 4 years. Go Herd!
