COACH’S CORNER
Quotes from head coach Bill Tramel

On the meet today:
I’m very happy with today. We swam a lot of season bests. We had potential for a letdown today. Especially being up so much after day one. It would’ve been the easiest thing to come in here and just cruise, almost like the meets in hand and we don’t have to push ourselves or go to the well. And we didn’t back down. We kept our intensity high. Our cheering and energy was great and when teams are able to do that when it’s a little quiet and the meet isn’t on the line, that shows a lot of character. I’m very proud of the team and what they’ve done.

On Lonkert and Bendziewicz:
We had some good performances. Heather Lonkert, who didn’t compete yesterday and came back today and won the one meter board, was great. Catherine Bendziewicz did a really great job today.

Looking ahead:
But overall, very pleased and this sets us up for our first big meet of the semester, the NC State Invitational in two weeks in Greensboro, N.C. That is what our whole focus has been on this first semester. I feel really good about where we are at. Now we have to continue to do the job and we have one more week of hard work and then we will go down there to face some very stiff competition. North Carolina, NC State, Duke and Tennessee are all heavyweights. We also get another opportunity to beat West Virginia, which is something we are certainly looking forward to.

Quote by diving coach Tony Cortright:

On Lonkert and the diving team:
I thought the team as a whole today did fantastic. They focused on the things that they were asked to focus on and they performed. I thought we had some issues when we showed up to the show on doing what we came here to do and today they started to overcome that, which was awesome. Heather [Lonkert] came off of a two week injury and did one day practice and lit it up today on the one meter. She was pretty close to her zone cut, so I think we are on the right track and doing good things.

UP NEXT
The Thundering Herd returns to the pool at the NC State GAC Invitational from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19. Each day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m.
