Both Henrique Martins and Felipe Lima started out Brazil’s Maria Lenk Trophy on a high note, hitting top-5 world-ranked times in prelims of the 100 fly and 100 breast, respectively.

Martins went 51.57 to take the top spot in the men’s 100 fly. That time jumps to #4 in the world ranks, and Martins will still have tonight’s final to move further up the ranks. He’ll also have a test tonight from Vinicius Lanza, who was 52.33 this morning and has a good shot to join Martins in the 51s tonight.

Lima won prelims of the 100 breast, going 59.32. That checks in at #4 in the world as well, displacing Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi. Lima is the top qualifier by more than a second and will chase Felipa Silva‘s national record of 59.01 tonight.

A couple races should be set up for thrilling finishes tonight. Jhennifer Conceicao of Pinheiros leads the women’s 100 breast by just three one-hundredths over Unisanta’s Julia Sebastian, 1:08.66 to 1:08.69. SESI’s Daynara de Paula tied with Unisanta’s Daiene Dias for the top spot in the women’s 100 fly as both women went 59.18. And Pinheiros’ Luiz Melo leads the 400 free by just over a tenth. His 3:53.89 tops Minas’ Giuliano Rocco’s 3:54.01.
