The Wisconsin Badgers picked up their first verbal commitment of the season when Olympic Trials qualifier Hannah Lindsey of Potomac, Maryland made public via Instgram her decision to spend the next four years in Madison. Lindsey is a senior at Winston Churchill High School and is the reigning MPSSAA 4A3A state champion in the 100 yard backstroke. She won the event as a sophomore (56.42) in 2014 and again as a junior (56.19); she was also runner-up in the 200 IM in 2015 with 2:08.30.
Lindsey swims year-round with All-Star Aquatics in Rockville, Maryland. Her most successful meet of this past season was the NCSA Spring Championships, where she earned her first 2016 Olympic Trials nod by notching a 2:15.79 to place second in the B final of the 200 meter backstroke. She also went best times in the 50m and 100m backs, the 50m fly, and 200m IM at that meet. Most of her top short course times date from the same meet in 2014. Lindsey’s best outings over the past two seasons have included:
Event | SCY | LCM |
50 back | 25.75 | 29.95 |
100 back | 54.48 | 1:03.65 |
200 back | 1:57.96 | 2:15.79 |
200 IM | 2:04.92 | 2:21.32 |
200 free | 1:49.42 | 2:06.49 |
Lindsey will be a welcome addition to the Badgers’ backstroke squad, most of whom were crowded out of finals at 2015 B1G Championships by Michigan and Indiana. Wisconsin’s lone scorer in the 100 back, Annie Tamblyn, will have graduated when Lindsey first suits up for the Badgers; the 200 back contingent, Madison Blaydes and Madeline Hazle, will be seniors.
Way to go Hannah. It was a pleasure working with you and your mom and dad. Congratulations to coach Bob Walker. I see a future NCAA All American
Congratulations to Hannah and to the Badgers! Good luck in Madison!
Winston Churchill HS is the alma mater of Olympians Dan Veatch and Mike Barrowman.
Pay attention, UMd College Park: there is some really good swimming going on in Maryland. The state is the home to not only Hannah Lindsey, but also some other really good swimmers. You may have heard of some of them…
Congrats to Hannah and her family! It’s great to see her hard work pay off. Wisconsin is lucky to have her!
Great pickup for the Badgers. Congratulations Hannah!
