Masters Swimming Ontario is back in good standing with its umbrella federations, a press release announced today.
Earlier this month, we reported that Masters Swimming Ontario (MSO) had fallen out of good standing with its provincial federation, Swimming Ontario. The national federation, Swimming Canada, sent an e-mail to its members notifying them of the issue, and noting that all MSO events, including the 2016 Canadian Masters Nationals, would lose their sanctioning from Swimming Canada.
But the issue has been resolved, per a press release from Masters Swimming Canada, and all of MSO’s meets will regain their sanctioning.
The full press release is below:
TORONTO – Masters Swimming Canada is pleased to confirm the restoration of sanctioning for all events and activities undertaken by Masters Swimming Ontario. In a letter released today by Swimming Canada, the CEO, Ahmed El-Awadi, stated “Masters Swimming Ontario and all and any participants, members or events related to Masters Swimming Ontario are now in good standing and are subsequently restored, effective immediately, both domestically and internationally.”
The Ontario Masters Provincial Championships on April 1st to 3rd, 2016, and the Masters Swimming Canada National Championships being held May 20th to 23rd, 2016 (all hosted by Etobicoke Olympium Masters Aquatic Club), will go on as scheduled.
Masters Swimming Canada’s Executive Director stated “we are very pleased that the matter involving Masters Swimming Ontario (MSO) and Swim Ontario (SO) has been resolved and we thank Phil Rogers (President, MSO) and Eric Martin (President, SO) for their leadership in this matter.” He went on to say “we encourage members from across the country to attend these events and any in North America.”
I, too, am curious as to what led to the problem in the first place. Does all this broo-ha-ha have anything to do with why the mymsc (my masters swimming Canada) URL doesn’t work anymore? Does anyone know the URL of the current national masters swimming Canada website?
Here is the statement issued Wednesday by MSO to all of its member clubs:

This was the strangest, worst-communicated event ever by a swimming organization. Presumably, MSO did something wrong or didn’t do something that Swimming Canada didn’t want or wanted. But, we will never know the transgression and if there was any “leason” that Swimming Canada wanted similar masters organizations to learn, it will apparently not be learned since no one knows what it could be.
The upshot of this news reporting is that its got me thinking about attending a meet in Ontario.
