Matt Fallon Adds Another Win At YMCA Spring Festival With 3:46 400 IM

Day 2 of the 2021 YMCA Spring Festival got underway in Voorhees, New Jersey as swimmers raced the 400 IM, 100 fly, and 200 freestyle.

In the men’s 400 IM, Penn commit Matt Fallon was far ahead of the field, posting a 3:46.89 victory which was more than 10 seconds quicker than Clayton Bernauer‘s 3:57.01. Jaedan Yburan was the only other swimmer under the 4-minute mark with a 3:58.96 for bronze. Fallon’s 400 IM performance made it 2 straight IM victories following his 200 IM win on night 1 when he took gold with a 1:45.67. Fallon was actually faster, however, in the prelims with a 3:44.76 to get within a second of his 3:44.08 PB.

15-year-old Emily Thompson claimed a victory in the women’s 400 IM with a 4:17.11 PB, improving upon her 4:18.80 from December 2020. The swim was a full 3.76 seconds faster than her morning swim of 4:20.87. Thompson was followed by Julia Meisner who claimed silver with a 4:22.91 and Sophia Yousuf who hit a 4:25.33 for bronze.

Arabella Lee managed to win the 100 butterfly for Greater Monmouth with her 54.47 PB as the only swimmer in the field under 55 seconds. Lily Hahn and Grace Zhou were second and third, posting a 55.28 and 55.67, respectively. As for the men, Trent Russano took gold in the 100 fly, also for Greater Monmouth as he swam a 47.94 which was almost a second ahead of David Curtis’s 48.72 for silver and Joseph Gurski’s 48.80 for bronze.

Catherine Meisner won her second individual title of the meet with a 1:47.30 200 freestyle, following her 4:48.51 500 freestyle on night one. Meisner’s swim was quicker than both his entry time of 1:48.76 and prelim swim of 1:49.30.

Clare Logan trailed Meisner by 2 seconds with a silver medal-winning 1:49.93 and Danielle D’Ambrosio rounded out the top three with a 1:51.81.

Like Meisner, night 1’s 500 freestyle champion on the men’s side collected gold in the 200 as Jack Alexy swam a 1:53.52 in the event. Alexy’s swim was exactly the same as his PB in the event of 1:35.52 which he swam in December 2019. Dominic Edwards and Rob Alexy also made it to the 200 freestyle podium, following with a 1:39.63 and 1:40.25, respectively.

Relay Results

  • The Greater Somerset women won the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:34.95 while the Greater Monmouth women took gold in the 400 yard medley (3:42.93).
  • The Greater Somerset men swept the day 2 relays, winning the 200 freestyle in a 1:22.71 and the 400 medley in a 3:15.64.
