LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego men’s water polo Associate Head Coach Matt Ustaszewski will join the United States Senior National Team staff for their upcoming tournament in Ostia, Italy, as they prepare for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The United States men’s water polo team started their trip in Belgrade, Serbia, where they played their first competitive international competition in over a year. 2019 UC San Diego graduate Jack Turner played the second half and recorded 6 saves in their 13-7 victory over Serbia. Turner also had seven saves including a key shoot-out save in a 22-21 win over Croatia on Feb. 6. Also joining Ustaszewski and Turner on the trip with the men’s senior national team will be 2019 UC San Diego graduate Kacper Langiewicz, who is currently playing for Kaposvári VK in the Hungarian Water Polo top division. Currently, the European Leagues are on break and will return to action at the end of the month.Ustaszewski will serve as the senior team’s video coordinator and scout in a similar role to what he performed at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. He was also on the United States men’s and women’s senior team staff at the 2018 FINA Intercontinental Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, in which both the men’s and women’s teams won the gold medal.
