Most of the Texas Longhorns collegiate and post-grad athletes were racing in other spots this weekend, including a large contingent at the Texas Senior Circuit meet in College Station. One of the newest Longhorns, transfer from the University of Florida Maxime Rooney, stayed closer to home, though, and raced instead at the local Texas Open hosted by Longhorn Aquatics. He was one of a handful of 19 & over swimmers at the meet, along with teammates like Josh Artmann and Mason Tenney.
While none of the times on their own were earth-shattering, it is significant as Rooney’s 2nd meet in Austin since announcing his intent to transfer in early May.
Rooney’s Results:
- 100 free – 49.76
- 100 back – 56.56
- 200 free – 1:50.00
As we try to read into Rooney’s intentions going forward, after he made almost a full-scale shift to butterfly in his junior season at Florida (with success), he swam the 100 fly (53.23) and 200 IM (2:04.41) in late May at another local, mostly age-group, meet. This week he swam the 100 free, 200 free, and 100 back. Aside from the 100 back being .05 away from his lifetime best, there’s no real strong indicators as to which direction he’s going.

Emma Wheal‘s Results:

Emma Wheal was probably the top junior at the meet; she was originally committed to Virginia, but after a breakout 25.4 in a meet last June, she changed her commitment to Stanford.

No post about the UGA grand slam meet? Jake magahey and Ryan Held swam faster than 49.7 in the 100 free. Ian Grum 1:59 200 back, Ryan held 22.1 Dillon downing 22.70 50 free. Some fast swims for no report on it.
I’m sure it’s tough for the website to be everywhere at once, their budget isn’t like CNN or ESPN lol

Hard to believe that only six of the following will go to Tokyo in 100 FR…and only 8 make Trials final. And knowing trials…theres gonna be some breakthroughs from other swimmers not listed…

Clement mignon 48.9 this weekend, been around a while seems to have ups and downs.
I’d assume Olympic year would be an up.
Hard to not see Adrian on that relay but with his age and health issues you wonder where he will be in 12 months. His swim last week looked good though so hopefully he can still throw down a 47.5 or better rolling.

He’s going 100/200free as that’s his greatest opportunity to be an Olympian.
Could work his move as Florida been a massive volume program and Texas more utilisation could be perfect timing.
Basing that comment on schooling, conger, Licon, Smith all struggling to move. Eddie always speaks about fast swimming.
Texas seems to be a big 100free program / swims fast on 50:100/200yrd relays seems a nice move from the way Florida approaches 100/200free. Considering Kieran Smith went 49.9 on mare nostrum, and I doubt his focus is 100free in anyway (IM and 200free) be interesting rooneys progress over the next year.
