McDonald, Dixon, Sturgis, Brion Honored by America East

BOSTON – The 2018-19 regular season comes to a close as #AESD programs prepare for the 2019 America East Swimming and Diving Championships. New Hampshire, Maine, Binghamton and VMI were the only AE programs that competed last weekend. Both Binghamton programs picked up wins while Maine and New Hampshire’s women’s team did as well.

The 2019 America East Swimming and Diving Championship, which will be held again at WPI in Worcester, Mass from February 14-17.

Here are the weekly awards:

Female Swimmer of the Week

Juliana McDonald, Maine – Sr., Freestyle, Bangor, Maine

  • Won two individual events, 50 free (23.55) and 100 free (52.00) while also being a part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.72) as well as the 400 free relay (3:36.90) against UNH on Friday.
  • She also took first place in both the 50 free (23.68) and the 100 free (51.78) against Providence on Saturday while also being a part of the winning 200 medley with a time of 1:49.04 and the 200 free relay with a time of 1:37.69.
  • This is McDonald’s second #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Male Swimmer of the Week

Alex Brion, Binghamton – Sr., Freestyle, Canandaigua, N.Y.

  • Won both the 50 free (21.04) and the 100 free (47.33) in Binghamton’s 155-145 win over St. Bonaventure.
  • Also was a part of the winning 200 medley relay and was instrumental in sealing the relay win in the 400 free relay team.
  • This is Brion’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Female Diver of the Week

PhilAnn Dixon, Maine – Fr., Diver, Wallingford, PA

  • Set a new school-record in the 1-meter event while sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter with a score of 265.88 and 227.93, respectively against Providence.
  • Also took first place in the 1-meter event with a score of 261.75 and took third place in the 3-meter event with a score of 201.00 against UNH.
  • This is Dixon’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Male Diver of the Week

Ben Sturgis, Maine – Soph., Diver, Mendon, MA

  • Won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against Providence with a score of 208.35 and 223.13, respectively.
  • This is Sturgis’ first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.
