PRESS RELEASE – MONMOUTH

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women’s swimming team closed its regular season with a victory over visiting Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at Steadman Natatorium. The Hawks improved to 7-5 on the season with a 155-107 win.

Camryn McHugh and Tahlia Botha were responsible for three individual victories each, while Sarah Brennan added two wins, and Alexandra Ho contributed one.

Prior to the meet, Monmouth honored its Senior Class of Mary EmichToniann FeigelJaclyn GreeningBradie Keelen and Brooke Weber.

“We were excited for the women’s team to get a big win. We knew going in that the meet would come down to a lot of close races and getting off to a quick start was important. Winning the first two events gave us a big early lead which we were able to build on throughout the meet.”

– Monmouth’s women won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:03.49 as Camryn McHughTahlia BothaAlexandra Ho, and Bradie Keelen contributed to the victory.

– Sophomore Sarah Brennan won the 1000-yard free (11:05.47) and the 500-yard free (5:26.54) giving her three first-place finishes on the year along with seven for her career.

– Sophomore Camryn McHugh won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.75), the 100-yard butterfly (58.58), and the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.27) which gives her 16 first-place finishes in 2019 along with 40 for her career which is a team high.

– Tahlia Botha won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.99), the 200-yard IM (2:15.45), and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.91). Botha has 21 first-place finishes in her freshman season.

– Freshman Alexandra Ho won the 50 yard freestyle (24.62), increasing her season wins total to 14.

UP NEXT
Monmouth will turn its attention toward the MAAC Championships, scheduled to begin on Feb. 12 in Buffalo, NY.

PRESS RELEASE – SACRED HEART

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.– The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team fell to Monmouth this afternoon by a final score of 155-107. The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday February 2 when SHU travels to face St. Francis Brooklyn. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Lauren Somers had the best day for the Pioneers as she took first in 100 and 200 freestyle with times of 1:55.15 (200), and 53.44 (100). and was a member of the 200 free relay with Nicole TingleyGrace Bergstrom, and Emily Peter that took first as well the touched the wall with a time of 1:42.39. Tingley also took first in the 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:15.46. First-year Casey Barrett did a season best time in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:01.11. Diving was uncontested as Monmouth does not have a diving team.
