Olympic gold medalist Kaylee McKeown lowered her own All Comers Record in the women’s 200m IM to kick off her 2023 Australian National Championships campaign.
Racing on night one on the Gold Coast, 21-year-old McKeown put up a time of 2:08.16, slicing 2:08.19 off the aforementioned record she put on the books 2 years ago.
That gave her the gold tonight with an over one-second advantage ahead of runner-up Jenna Forrester who touched in 2:09.32 while Ella Ramsay rounded out the top 3 in 2:12.39.
McKeown’s time tonight represents a new lifetime best and the mark was quicker than the 2:08.57 she posted for silver at last year’s World Championships.
McKeown’s World Championships 2:08.57 | McKeown’s Previous 2:08.19 PB | McKeown’s New 2:08.16 PB |
28.01 | 27.71 | 28.14 |
32.24 | 32.66 | 32.45 |
37.32 | 37.34 | 37.32 |
31.00 | 30.48 | 30.25 |
McKeown remains the 3rd fastest Australian woman ever in this 2IM event, sitting only behind national record holder Stephanie Rice (2:07.03, 2009) and Alicia Coutts (2:08.15, 2012).
She now ranks 2nd in the world on the season with the Australian World Trials on the horizon for June.
2022-2023 LCM Women 200 IM
McIntosh
2:06.89 WJR
2 | Kate Douglass | USA | 2:07.09 | 07/01 |
3 | Kaylee McKeown | AUS | 2:07.19 | 05/12 |
4 | Alex Walsh | USA | 2:07.89 | 07/01 |
5 | Yu Yiting | CHN | 2:08.34 | 05/02 |
Food for thought.
I can foresee a scenario where Kate Douglass does not even swim the W 200 IM (Day 5) at the 2023 Phillips 66 National Championships. If Kate Douglass finishes top two in the W 100 FL (Day 3) at the 2023 Phillips 66 National Championships, the W 100 FL mirrors the schedule with W 200 IM at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships:
W 4 x 100 FR-R (Day 1)
W 200 BR (Day 2)
W 100 FL (Day 3)

Don’t care McIntosh still winning
A 2:07 seems quite possible.
So is this the worlds qualification meet,
No. Just Nationals. Trials is in June.
