Meaghan Harnish Decommits from Missouri; Announces Verbal to South Carolina

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Meaghan Harnish, a senior at West York Area High School in York, Pennsylvania, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of South Carolina’s class of 2026. Previously, she had committed to Missouri.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of South Carolina!! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way!! Go gamecocks!!❤️🤍 #spursup”

Harnish swims year-round for York YMCA and specializes in breaststroke and IM. This summer, she was an A-finalist in both the 200 breast and 400 IM at Speedo Summer Championships-East, picking up PBs in both events (2:35.02/4:55.15). Earlier in the summer she had gone lifetime bests in the 100 free (58.84), 200 free (2:04.94), 1500 free, 200 back, and 200 IM (2:17.77) at the Middle Atlantic Senior Long Course Championships. Her best 100 breast time (1:13.95) comes from Time Trials at U.S. Open in Richmond last November. There, she competed in the 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM and placed 12th, 24th, and 10th.

In SCY, she had a strong showing in April at the YMCA Virtual Swimming Festival, finaling in both breaststrokes and both IMs and earning new PBs in the 100/200 breast and 400 IM.

Best SCY Times:

  • 200 breast – 2:13.30
  • 100 breast – 1:03.62
  • 400 IM – 4:15.43
  • 200 IM – 2:02.48

Harnish will join the SEC where her older sister Courtney Harnish was an All-American in the class of 2021. First-year head coach Jeff Poppell has also secured verbal commitments from Amy Riordan, Caroline Kudela, Claire Dafoe, Makayla Ciancanelli, Megan Maholic, and Sterling Burd for the Gamecocks’ class of 2026.
