The North Texas swimming and diving team began the 2016 season on Friday in its annual pentathlon meet hosted at the Pohl Recreation Center. North Texas dominated the pool on the women’s side, finishing with the top four times of the meet.
“I thought it was [a] really good meet overall for our team,” interim head coach Brittany Roth said. “For being the first meet of the year and having five races in under two hours, I was really please with the way they stepped up on every single race, even when fatigued.”
The pentathlon featured two other schools, the TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas-Permian Basin Falcons competing in the 100 yard butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley.
Sarah Vaisse claimed the top spot of the day, finishing with a total time of 4:50.36. She posted the fastest times in the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and the 100 individual medley.
Two newcomers Jowita Sienczyk and EmmaBeth Jensen, made their debut for North Texas, posting times of 5:04.53 and 5:05.55, respectively. Jensen was the to finisher in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 56.80, and the 100 free with a time of 52.61.
Sydney Buckley, Claudia Kitching, Sara Whelan, and Natalia Kwiakowska each placed in the top 10 as well, giving North Texas seven of the 10 fastest times.
“To finish with seven athletes in the top 10 shows the versatility that each of these girls are bringing to the table.”
