The North Texas Mean Green, Texas Christian Frogs and the Texas- Permian Basin Falcons showed down last night at their Pentathlon competition- hosted by North Texas. TCU claimed six of the top eight slots in the competition, with the Mean Green taking first and seventh. The Falcon’s highest placer was Amanda Alspaugh, who is in her junior year for the Falcons and hails from Round Rock, Texas,  in 25th place.

Top honors in the competition go to Sarah Vaisse for the Mean Green, whose combined time for the event was 4:55.74, a full seven and a half seconds faster than TCU’s  second place  sophomore Devin Newton. Vaisse, whose specialty is in breaststroke and IM, was a member of the French National Team and is beginning her Sophomore year in Denton.  Full results from the meet can be found here.

In the Pentathlon format, each swimmers competes in 100 yard distances of each discipline: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and IM. Their times are added together and the swimmers place based on their combined times. This type of event is very valuable early in the season, because it gives each swimmer the opportunity to try out strokes that they may not have the chance to compete in for the rest of the season.

The Falcons face TCU in  dual meet today, Septembe 26th, while the Mean Green will have their intrasquad meet today.  The Mean Green will host TCU for a dual meet on January 29th.
