The opening ceremony of the 2016 Paralympic Games kicked off last night in Rio, which means the action in the pool begins today. Meet one of the Paralympic athletes gunning for gold, Scottish swimmer Andrew Mullen, in this vignette interview conducted a couple of months ago.
Mullen is entering his 2nd Paralympic Games representing Great Britain, as, at just 15 years of age, he was the youngest male swimmer on the British team in London 2012.
Within the video, Mullen describes how it feels entering his 2nd Paralympic Games, with the now-19-year-old having life lessons to apply and a maturity to add to the mix this time around. To help him prepare, Mullen says he undergoes a psychological routine, including listening to music and visualization. He also takes says he takes comfort behind the blocks, knowing that he has done everything possible and left every stone unturned in order to prepare for his racing moment.
Mullen was named Disability Swimmer of the Year by Scottish Swimming in 2013 and 2015. A congenital limb disorder left Mullen with no hands or forearms.
Left every stone unturned? Or no stone unturned?
