Senior Day

Friday’s women’s meet vs. Louisville will serve as senior day for Hoosiers Allie Day, Cynthia Pammett, Justine Ress and Dorina Szekeres. The four seniors will be honored prior to the 5 p.m. start time. In addition, Dr. Joel Stager will receive the Marge Counsilman Service Award.

Indiana vs. Louisville (WOMEN)

This will be the second meeting this season between the Hoosiers are Cardinals. IN a tri-meet on Oct. 24-25 in Ann Arbor, Indiana defeated Louisville by a score of 210-143. Last January Indiana was a 175-123 winner in Bloomington.

Indiana vs. Evansville (MEN)

A select group of men will compete against Evansville on Friday, with a majority of the squad heading to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday. The teams also competed in a split squad event in 2013 in Bloomington, a 155.5-78.5 win for the Purple Aces.

Indiana vs. Louisville (MEN)

In their meeting earlier this year in Ann Arbor, the Hoosiers men posted a 185.5-166.5 victory over the Cardinals. Last January in Bloomington Indiana came away a 162-138 winner over Louisville. A 2013 meeting in Louisville also ended victorious for Indiana, 193-107.

Indiana vs. Ohio State (MEN)

The Buckeyes and Hoosiers last squared off in a dual meet in the 2012-13 season, a 150-148 win for Indiana in Bloomington. Prior to that the teams met in January 2010 in Columbus, with the Buckeyes taking a 224-74 win.

National Rankings

In the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division I Team Rankings (Jan. 15), the IU women come in at No. 14. Other Big Ten teams include No. 9 Michigan, No. 11 Minnesota, No. 17 Penn State, No. 21 Iowa and No. 24 Wisconsin. Louisville comes in at No. 19. Indiana is 3-3 vs. top-25 teams with wins over Tennessee, Louisville and Wisconsin.

The most recent men’s rankings came out on Jan. 22, with the Hoosiers at No. 9. Other Big Ten teams include No. 5 Michigan, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 19 Iowa, and No. 23 Minnesota. Indiana is 4-2 against top-25 teams this season with wins over Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Last Time Out…

It came down to the last race of the season for the Indiana women vs. Purdue but the Hoosiers pulled off the comeback victory, 151.5-147.5 in West Lafayette. Haley Lips, Brooklynn Snodgrass, Cynthia Pammett and Kennedy Goss won the 400 free relay to clinch the team victory. Snodgrass also won the 100 and 200 backstroke events, with Gia Dalesandro sweeping the 100 fly and 200 fly, as well as winning the 200 IM. Grace Vertigans won the 100 freestyle, with Lips victorious in the 500 free and Jessica Parratto winning the 1-meter springboard.

The men had a bit more breathing room in their victory over rival Purdue, 162-138. Blake Pieroni was a big winner for Indiana, taking the 100 free, 200 free, as well as a member of the winning 400 free relay alongside Anze Tavcar, Mike Hurley and Max Irwin. Irwin was victorious in the 100 butterfly, while Jackson Miller won the 1,000 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Bob Glover won the 100 backstroke, and Michael Hixon was victorious in the 1-meter springboard.

Season at a Glance

The Indiana women are 6-3 on the season, including wins in their last five matchups. The Hoosier men boast a record of 7-2 on the year, including a win over Auburn to open the season.

Big Ten Honors

Indiana swimmers and divers have been well represented on the Big Ten weekly awards list. Anze Tavcar has been Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on two occasions, while Blake Pieroni has earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award twice. Michael Hixon comes in with a whopping four Big Ten Diver of the Week honors in his first season as a Hoosier. James Connor also has a Big Ten Diver of the Week award to his credit, while Ali Khalafalla was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 14.

On the women’s side Brooklynn Snodgrass has three Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards, while Kennedy Goss has been named Freshman of the Week three times. Jessica Parratto and Lacey Houser have each taken home a Big Ten Diver of the Week award.

National Champions

Several Hoosiers picked up national titles at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals Championships and the USA Diving Winter Nationals. Brooklynn Snodgrass was crowned a national champion in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 800 free relay at the USA Swimming event in December. Joining her as a national titlist in the 800 free relay were Haley Lips, Cynthia Pammett and Kennedy Goss.

At the USA Diving Winter Nationals, Jessica Parratto won gold in the platform competition and earned another title alongside former Hoosier Amy Cozad in the synchro platform event. While he did not win a national title, Michael Hixon’s second-place finish in the 1-meter springboard competition earned him a spot at the 2015 World Championships.

UP NEXT

This is the final dual meet of the season for both squads as they turn preparations to the Big Ten Championships. The women will compete Feb. 18-21 in Columbus, Ohio, while the men travel to Iowa City, Iowa on Feb. 25-28.
