Megan Lynch, 10, Breaks Two NAG Records In One Individual Swim

Megan Lynch of the Greenwich YWCA Dolphins Swim Team notched her name into the National Age Group Record books today while swimming at the Eastern Zone Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, NY. Lynch, a 10 year-old, blew away Annie Zhu’s previous record set at 1:09.79 in 2005. Zhu is currently a sophomore at the University of Georgia, is a 6 time NCAA All-American, and has helped Georgia to NCAA National Championship Titles for the past two years.

Megan Lynch didn’t just beat Zhu’s 100 breaststroke record, she killed it, posting a time of 1:08.07, which is almost two seconds faster. More impressively, she took out the 100 breaststroke in 31.73, which breaks Kaylin Burchell’s 2005 National Age Group record of 31.82. Burchell is now a junior at the University of Alabama.

This Zone Championship meet has been very fast all weekend long. Yesterday, Alexandra Walsh of Chelsea Piers swim team in Connecticut swam to a 1:58.31, and Katie Mack from NCAP swam to a 1:59.03 in the final, both of which cleared the 11-12 National Age Group record time of 1:59.49 set by Georgia-bound high school senior Kylie Stewart from 2009. You can read about those swims here.

Lynch still has a full summer long course season with an August 3rd birthday, so there still may be some marks to come.

AMAZING!
CONGRATS!
That 100 breast record is crazy! VIDEO PLEASE!
Meghan Lynch isn’t only a breaststroker. She’s very versatile. She also swam 2.16.66 in the 200 IM, 2.02.50 in the 200 free and 57.16 in the lead-off leg of the 4X100 free relay.
It’s really impressive to see the number of crazy fast kids in that north-east part of USA.

Amazing! Beating a 100 yard record by 1.7 is crazy, but so is breaking the 50 record on a split! Has that ever been done?

Jessica Hardy’s American (formerly world) record in the 50 breast was a split on the way to her 100 American (formerly world) record.

Small correction: The Greenwich Dolphins swim out of a YWCA, not a YMCA.
