Meili, Larson made it into several finals at FINA World Cup Dubai

The second and last day of the FINA World Cup in Dubai kicked off at 10 am with morning prelims.

Jeanette Ottesen (DEN) touched in 53,99 in the 100m freeystyle for  the #1 seed for finals. Britany Elmslie (AUS) will be in the second seed tonight in 54,18.

Belgium’s Pieter Timmers set himself up as the #1 seed for the men’s 200m freestyle final, he clocked a 1:47,59. Myles Brown (RSA) will be in the second seed tonight (1:46,85).

Top seed in the 50m breaststroke is Alia Atkinson (Jam) in 29,48  ahead of Yuliya Efimova (RUS) in 30,33. Breeja Larson set the third fastest time in the morning heats in 30,98, Katie Meili finished with the fifth fastest time (31,26).

Top-seeded in the men’s 100m breast is Xiang Li (CHN), he finished in 59,08, second fastest into the final is Japan’s Daiya Seto in 59,14.

The top seed in the men’s 100m butterfly is Germany’s Philip Heintz who hit the wall in a time of 51,60. The next-fastest swim in the morning heats came from Japan’s Takeshi Kawamoto in 51,76. Heintz scratched tonight’s final because he wants to focus on the 200 IM. Josh Prenot took a spot in the final in 51,93,

Daryna Zevina (UKR) set the fastest time in the women’s 100m backstroke in 58,57, followed by Katinka Hosszu (HUN) in 1:00,89.

Miguel Ortiz-Canavate (ESP) took the top spot for the men’s 50m backstroke final with a 23,72 ahead of Takeshi Kawamoto (JPN) in 23,75.

Katinka Hosszu touched in 2:04,87 in the 200m butterfly the #1 seed for finals. Madeline Groves (AUS) will be in the second seed tonight in 2:11,05. Hosszu now sits on 4th place in the world rankings. If you watch Katinka Hosszu swimming her mammoth program, it can be seen that she and her trainer work specifically on details and probably set some race tasks: For example, her time in the 200m butterfly was very good for a morning prelims swim and she also stayed long under water with effective dolphin kicks.

Daiya Seto (JPN)  finished with the top time this morning in the 200m IM in 2:00,70. Omar Garcia Pinzon (COL) took the second spot for the final in 2:01,11. Josh Prenot made it into the final with a time of 2:02,62.

In tonight’s women’s 400m freestyle final, Daryna Zevina (UKR)  is the top seed (4:16,66).  Katinka Hosszu (HUN) came in with the second fastest time in 4:19,35.

Vladimir Morozov (RUS) set himself up as the #1 seed for the men’s 50m freestyle final, he clocked a 21,51. South Africa’s Bradley Tandy will be in the second seed in 21,66.

Top-seeded in the women’s 100m IM is Katinka Hosszu (HUN) she finished in 59,56  ahead of Russia’s Yuliya Efimova in 59,95. Katie Meilie took the 4th spot for tonight’s final in 1.01,69, also Breeja Larson will join the 100m IM final (1:03,26).

Stanislav Donetc (RUS) touched in 1:59,41  in the 200m backstroke for  the #1 seed for finals. Oliver Cameron (CLB) will be in the second seed tonight in 2:00,65 . The 20-year old South African Trains in Dubai at the Hamilton Aquatics – the local swim club.

Jeanette Ottesen (DEN) took the top spot for the women’s 50m butterfly final with a 26,47 ahead of  Alia Atkinson (JAM) in 26,60.Katie Meili came in with the fifth fastest time (27,13).

Katie Meili will participate in the 50m freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke and the 100m IM finals, Breeja Larson is set to swim in the finals of the 50m freestyle, breaststroke, 100m IM and 200m breaststroke (swum without prelims because of less entries).
