The ever-ebullient Melanie Margalis crushes it here too like in the pool & the ISL. Always love seeing her smile & upbeat, positive attitude. A shining example of true sportsman / woman-ship. Thanks for yet another outstanding SSPC!
She left ISL during before finals and didn’t sign up this year….
Looking forward to hearing her discussion, but questioning the headline given that the last time two different women won the IMs was 1992.
Yeah swimswam just posted an article on that less than 24hrs ago too (link below) – not saying that fact makes it easy to do, or unworthy of respect. Winning any Olympic event is an incredible accomplishment. But it is kind of a weird double standard here with the two articles I think.

You’re right, the title isn’t the best. But Mel addresses this, saying that it’s hard to truly fire in both events at the same meet, noting that if an athlete wins both, they’re usually more dominant in one than the other. I found that really interesting, and that’s what I was trying to convey in the title
I think she might have meant to say for her, it is tough to do well in both, but when headline stat is that it has been 7 quad cycles that the same woman has won both IM, not a good look. For her yes! But happens a lot!
Same with 400/200 free..Titmus 2020, Katie 2016, Allison almost did it in 2012. My memory fails before that….
Yes! Thanks for bringing this.
Melanie is a champ, shared so much insight from behind the curtain. Once she get’s going, she really goes deep on a lot of these topics.
