Men’s 1 meter diving projections factor into top 15 team battles

Following day 1 prelims, there are quite a few tight team battles set up. After the prelims of the men’s 1 meter diving, the top 16 scorers are set to give their teams a boost in the rankings. The B-finalists will dive directly after prelims, while the top 8 are competing in finals.

Top score projections for teams went to Indiana (32), Miami (24), and a tie between Stanford and Texas (20). Indiana and Miami each got two divers into the championship final. Defending champion Michael Hixon will return to try to defend his title, after transferring to Indiana.

Texas Longhorns Corey Bowersox and Mark Anderson set UT up to extend a lead over Cal, making the A and B final respectively. Top seed Kristian Ipsen will look to push Stanford further into the top 10, as they sit just 3 points behind Auburn and Georgia in projected team scoring.

7th seed Rafa Quintero may push Arizona past Missouri, as the highest finishing Mizzou Tiger sits at 20th place. The Tigers have a projected 47.3 points to Arizona’s 32. Quintero is set to score 12 points. If the scores from this morning went according to seeding, he would have to move up in order to move the Wildcats into 11th place.

USC’s Collin Pollard will try to move up in the consolation final, as USC and Alabama are separated by just 8 points. His points will also move USC closer to NC State, who sit 12.8 points ahead of the Trojans.

The top 8 finalists are: Ipsen, Connor, Johnson, Hixon, Bowersox, Herrerra, Quintero, and Dorman

The consolation finalists are: Rodriguez, Crayne, Anderson, Nyquist, Pollard (Minn), Miller, Pollard (USC), and Roberge.
