Mewen Tomac Inches Out French National Record In SCM 200 Back (1:49.21)

2023 FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS (25M)

Mewen Tomac was the third swimmer to set a new National Record on the opening day of the French Short Course Championships in Angers, as the 23-year-old logged a time of 1:49.21 in the men’s 200 backstroke en route to a decisive three-second victory.

Tomac’s swim slices two one-hundredths off the previous French Record of 1:49.23, set by Yohann Ndoye-Brouard at the 2022 Short Course World Championships in Melbourne just over 10 months ago.

Tomac was also in the field at last December’s SC Worlds, placing 6th in the final (1:49.93) after setting a PB of 1:49.61 in the prelims. Ndoye-Brouard’s National Record swim in the final earned him 4th place.
