Miami All-American Lucy Worrall Transferring to USC in January

Former Miami Hurricane All-American Lucy Worrall is transferring to USC.

“I chose USC because apart from being such a successful team they have a phenomenal work ethic and team dynamic. Dave Salo is an incredible coach and I am really looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish in the next few years swimming for him! I feel so lucky to have this opportunity and I am excited to start competing and add to such a successful team!”

Worrall says that she will join the Trojans’ team in January, which will give them a huge boost at the 2014 NCAA Championships. Until then, she’s training with Zach McGinnis, the former Virginia Tech All-American. She should have two years of eligibility with which to work at USC.

The newest Trojan, who is a British National, has yards bests of 51.98 and 1:57.32 in the 100 and 200 yard butterflys, which are her primary races. She’s also a very good freestyler, with bests of 51.53 and 1:47.17, both leading off relays, and at USC she may become an even bigger factor in those races.

Worrall was 13th at last year’s NCAA Championship in the 100 fly. Worrall will find as her training partners two of the best, Kendyl Stewart and Jasmine Tosky. The Trojans’ medleys look really good so far this year, as they lead the nation in both the 200 and the 400, but now there’s no question that they can use Stewart as their backstroker and have Worrall and Tosky duke-it-out for the spot on the medley, and maybe even do some prelims-finals swapping at NCAA’s to save races.

USC now joins Cal and Georgia as really the only two teams in the country who can fell every leg of their medley with one of the top 10 best returning swimmers in that specialty in the country.
