Miami (FL) Picks Up Florida 4A 100BR Runner-Up Laurynn Harvard

Miami (FL) has scored a commit late in the game for their class of 2021. Saint Petersburg Aquatics’ Laurynn Harvard will compete and study at Miami beginning this fall for the 2017-18 season.

I’m so thrilled to share that I have committed to the University of Miami in FL! I have been striving for the perfect academic and athletic balance that will allow me to be challenged in and out of the pool. This program offers everything I was looking for and more. So much pride and love for the “U” and I can’t wait for this to be my new home in the fall! GO CANES!

Harvard is a breaststroke specialist, and she was the FHSAA 4A runner-up in the 100 breast during the 2016-17 season. At that meet, she also finished 8th in the 100 free and swam on Countryside High School’s 8th place 400 free relay. While she excels at breaststroke, Harvard is a solid sprint freestyler and IM’er, too.

TOP TIMES (SCY)

  • 100 breast – 1:02.79
  • 200 breast – 2:20.10
  • 50 free – 24.16
  • 100 free – 52.52
  • 200 IM – 2:06.92

Harvard is almost quick enough to be a C final contender at ACCs in the 100 breast. That’s big news for Miami, whose best breaststroker, Julia Schippert, just exhausted her NCAA eligibility. Harvard has some more work to do if she’s going to score in the 200 breast or sprint frees/IM, but the 100 is where she’ll be most useful for the Hurricanes.

Harvard will be a much-needed addition in breaststroke, considering Schippert’s departure. Another incoming freshman, Annie Kyriakidis, will be a great training partner for Harvard as a 1:02/2:13 breaststroker.

Harvard joins Kyriakidis, Chandler Sensibaugh, Carmen San Nicolas and Alaina Skellett in the incoming freshman class for Miami.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
