OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University’ swimming and diving program is back in the pool Thursday through Saturday as it hosts the 23rd Annual Miami Invitational. The RedHawks will be facing off against Bowling Green, Denison, Emory, Indiana, Milwaukee, Missouri-St. Louis, Urbana and Washington University in St. Louis.
The invitational begins Thursday at 10 a.m. with prelims of the 200-yard freestyle relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay. The finals for those events will begin at 6 p.m.
Friday prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m. for the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 800-yard freestyle relay.
On Saturday (10 a.m.), prelims start for the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relay. At 4 p.m., the 1650-yard freestyle prelims will be run and their final heat will start off the last session of the Invite at 6 p.m.
The Miami men are 2-2 on the season and the women are 5-2. Both teams most recently swam at Ohio State, where the men lost by a score of 211-84 and the women fell, 182-115.
Lucas Brock has emerged as one of the top competitors for the men, specializing in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. The RedHawk woman to look out for is Pei Lin, who is coming off a MAC Diver of the Week award after the Ohio State meet. Lin has yet to lose an event this season.
Meet the Competition
Bowling Green (Women) – The Red & White already defeated the Falcons once this season, by a score of 217-83. Bowling Green comes into the Miami Invitational with a 3-3 dual meet record. They beat Toledo, Xavier and Ball State and lost to Miami, Marshall and Michigan State.
Denison (Men) – Denison comes into the Invitational as the #No. 1 Division III swimming and diving program and is coming off an NCAA championship run from last season. The Big Red men’s team has a 2-2 record after starting off 0-2 from losses to Eastern Michigan and Ohio State. They have since defeated Xavier and Kenyon. Denison also placed first in the Kenyon Relays and Denison Diving Relays back in October.
Denison (Women) – The Big Red women are the second-ranked Division III team in the country, only behind Emory’s women. Denison boasts the same record as the men’s team, defeating and losing to the same teams. The only difference is instead of winning the Kenyon Relays and Denison Diving Relays, they tied for first in both.
Emory (Men) – Emory is the #No. 2 Division III swimming and diving team in the country, only behind Denison. The Eagles are 2-0 in dual meets after defeating the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) by a score of 142-109 and Queens University of Charlotte, 153-109.
Emory (Women) – The Eagles are looking for their eighth consecutive NCAA Division III swimming and diving championship and 10th total. They come into the Invitational as the top-ranked squad in Division III. The women of Emory have a 2-0 record like their male counterpart. They also have conquered SCAD (146-97) and Queens University of Charlotte (136-126).
Indiana (Men) – Indiana is the second-ranked Division I swimming and diving program in the country, behind only North Carolina State. The Hoosiers are 8-0 on the year. They defeated #No. 3 Texas and #No. 9 Florida twice, once in long course and once in short course. Indiana also took down #No. 19 Tennessee, #No. 22 Kentucky, Michigan State and Cincinnati.
Indiana (Women) – The Hoosier women are the 13th-ranked Division I swimming and diving program and boast a 6-2 record. Their two losses come in the long- and short-course meets to #No. 4 Texas. Two of their wins came against #No. 16 Florida and the others to #No. 14 Tennessee, #No. 23 Kentucky, Michigan State and Cincinnati.
Milwaukee (Men) – The Panthers will come into Oxford on Thursday with a 1-3 dual meet record, with their lone win being against Wheaton. They fell to Grand Valley State, Wright State and UIC earlier this season.
Milwaukee (Women) – The Panther women claim a 4-0 record on the season. They have defeated Grand Valley State, Wheaton, and Horizon League rivals Wright State and UIC.
Missouri-St. Louis (Men) – The Triton men have beaten Lindenwood Belleville once and Maryville twice. They lost to Lindenwood and William Jewell this season for a 3-2 record headed into the Miami Invite.
Missouri-St. Louis (Women) – The Missouri-St. Louis women’s program comes into Oxford 2-3. It has defeated Lindenwood Belleville and Maryville and fell to William Jewell, Lindenwood and Maryville.
Urbana (Men) – The Blue Knight men from Urbana are 0-6 on the year, falling to Davis & Elkins, Union College, Mars Hill, Notre Dame College, Ohio Wesleyan and Manchester, the latter of whom only defeated them by a score of 96-94.
Urbana (Women) – Urbana’s women’s team has a 1-5 record this season. Its lone win came against Manchester, 146-99. They fell at the hands of Davis & Elkins, Union College, Mars Hill, Notre Dame College and Ohio Wesleyan.
Washington University in St. Louis (Men) – The Bears come into the Invitational with a record of 3-1. They defeated DePauw, Albion and Chicago and lost to Saint Louis in their first meet of the season.
Washington University in St. Louis (Women) – WASH U’s women have been successful this season, boasting a 4-0 record after downing Saint Louis, DePauw, Albion and Chicago.
