TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – After breaking two Missouri Valley Conference records Friday evening, Missouri State swimming and diving concluded action here Saturday morning, earning four wins on the women’s side and two wins on the men’s side. The men fell in a dual to Miami (Ohio), 233-120, while the women topped Indiana State, 196.50-154.50, and came up short against Miami, 205-146, in a tri-dual format.
On the men’s side, the morning started with a second-place finish (1:29.74) in the 200-yard medley relay by the squad of Robbie Hill, Nick Schuster, Tyler Lewis and Lucas Chadwell.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Dylan Moffatt grabbed first (9:11.98), shattering his previous season-best mark of 9:29.09. Also snagging first (1:39.31) was Brunno Suzuki in the 200-yard freestyle, topping his previous season-best mark as well (1:41.44). Rounding out individual freestyle action was Lucas Chadwell, notching a second-place finish in the 50-yard iteration (20.80).
“My race execution has progressed nicely throughout the first part of the season,” Moffatt said. “My freestyle is feeling strong, and the small changes are helping that process move along.”
In the 100-yard backstroke, the Bears grabbed two out of the three top spots with Hill coming in second (49.34) and Alex Boutin placing third (50.86). The 200-yard breaststroke produced the same results for MSU as Brayden Goeldner (2:05.70) and Schuster (2:05.77) snagged second and third.
Pawel Krawczyk placed third (49.93) in the 100-yard fly, and Lewis recorded second (4:00.71) in the 400-yard individual medley. To round out the swimming events on the men’s side, the team of Suzuki, Chadwell, Reese Hodgins and Bruno Guerra notched second (3:01.82) in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
On the women’s side, three swimmers now lead the MVC in events after the morning came to an end. Cabrini Johnson’s first-place 200-yard breaststroke time (2:16.33), Vera Margula’s second-place 1000-yard freestyle mark (10:10.82) and Anna Lucas’ second-place 200-yard freestyle time (1:49.59) all currently sit atop The Valley. Lucas’ mark was her career best in the event, while Margula and Johnson both recorded season-best times in their respective events.
“Coming off a strong unsuited race two weeks ago helped my confidence going into the race today,” Johnson said. “I’m really happy with how my 200-breast has progressed already this season, and I’m excited to see how the race continues to progress.”
“I’m very happy with how the 200-free went,” Lucas added. “It’s been my goal for a while to go under 1:50, so to get a 1:49 today while putting up some good points for the team was huge.”
The women’s team continued its relay success, grabbing first place (1:39.52) in the 200-yard medley relay and second (3:22.28) in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Sami Roemer, Lucas, Yuliya Zubina and Jordan Wenner participated in the freestyle relay while Kelly Sego, Yuliya Zubina, Roemer and Ulyana Zubina were responsible for the medley relay.
“I am very happy with my results at this time of this season,” Yuliya Zubina said. “It was very exciting to put a racing suit on and see where we are at. I think we all did a really good job racing this weekend, and I am also excited to see how much we can improve moving forward.”

In diving, Storm Opdahl (248.95) and Logan Schelfaut (246) finished fourth and fifth in three-meter diving competition on the men’s side.
