The Miami RedHawks pulled off a victory on the road in a tight dual meet with the Cincinnati Bearcats on the women’s side Wednesday night. The teams split the dual meet, as it was Cincinnati who took the win on the men’s side.

Stephanie LeMire came up with a pair of individual wins to help the Miami women to victory. Her first win came in the 200 breast, where she clocked a 2:18.55 ahead of Cincinnati’s Dee Sopapong (2:19.49). LeMire then held off a freestyle surge by Cincinnati’s Samantha Wheatley in the 200 IM, posting a winning time of 2:06.77 to Wheatley’s 2:06.84.

Cincinnati’s Jacqueline Keire pulled off an impressive triple for her team. Keire swept the sprint freestyles, blazing to a 23.29 victory in the 50 free and a 51.00 to win the 100 free. She also won the 200 free, where she clocked a quick 1:51.09 to win by nearly 2 seconds.

Cincinnati’s Chris Bready and Connor Davis took care of the freestyles to help the Bearcats take victory on the men’s side. Davis swept the sprints, clocking a 21.08 to touch out Miami’s Lucas Brock (21.12) in the 50 free. The 2 swimmers battled again in the 100 free, with Davis touching in 45.95 ahead of Brock’s 46.15. Bready, on the other hand, swept the distance races. He dominated the 1000 free in 9:07.64 before completing the sweep with a 4:30.02 in the 500 free.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team split decisions against Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Keating Aquatic Center with the men winning 195-105 and the women falling by a slim 153-145 margin. The meet was the first of the week for the Bearcats who also will host Kenyon, Oakland and Ohio State on Saturday and Sunday.

Cincinnati recorded 18 individual victories in the meet, led by senior Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) who took home three wins for the Bearcats. Junior Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins), senior Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) and sophomore Natalie Obando (Herndon, Va./Towson) each picked up a pair of victories on the night.

// HUNT IN THE HUNT
Sophomore diving standout Louis Hunt (Lakeside Park, Ky./Covington Catholic) won the men’s 3M diving competition with a score of 327.85. The score earned him an NCAA Zome Cut time and qualifies Hunt for the NCAA Zone Diving meet.

// KEIRE KEEPS UNDEFEATED STREAK
With three more first-place finishes vs. Miami, Keire has now won 17 individual races this season and every individual race she has entered. Overall, the senior has five wins in the 200 and 50 freestyle events, four in the 100 freestyle and one win apiece in the 500, 800 and 1000 freestyle races.

// PODIUM SWEEPS
Cincinnati took home first and second and third place medals in five different men’s events, leading to its dominating performance on the men’s side. Bready led the way in the 1000 freestyle with 9:07.64 followed by freshman Din Selmanovic (Mississauga, Onratio/Cawthra) in 9:30.10 and freshman Tyler Jones (Walla Walla, Wash./Walla Walla) in 9:35.28. In the 100 yard breaststroke, sophomore Zach Hostoffer (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) won in 55.57 with senior Ludovico Corsini (Milan, Italy/Giulio Casiraghi) touching second in 56.94 and senior Tyler Roehr (Cottage Grove, Wis./Manona Grove) third in 57.17. Freshman George Epsly (Stanford Le Hope, England/Basildon & Phoenix) won the 200 butterfly in 1:53.58 followed by junior Ryan DePietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) in 1:53.84 and freshman Jared Crosby (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) in 1:55.98. The 500 freestyle saw four Bearcats finish at the top of the standings, led by Bready (4:30.20), Selmanovic (4:39.39), sophomore Justin Crew (Springfield, Ill./Shawnee) (4:41.56) and Epsly (4:45.21). The final podium sweep for Cincinnati occurred in the men’s 200 IM where DePietro won in 1:56.51, followed by freshman Nate Jonas (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) in 1:56.79 and Roehr in 1:57.21.

Cincinnati stays in the Keating Aquatic Center for a quad meet vs. Kenyon, Oakland and Ohio State on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 14. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

PRESS RELEASE – MIAMI:

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Miami University’s swimming and diving squad traveled to Cincinnati on Wednesday night to take on the Bearcats. The women squeaked away with a 153-145 victory, and the men fell by a score of 195-105.

Stephanie LeMire had herself a meet, winning two individual events and placing third in another. Her wins came in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.55) and 200-yard IM (2:06.77). LeMire’s third-place finish was in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she clocked in at 1:04.64. Elise Campbell won the event in 1:03.64.

Emma Bradley won the 1000-yard freestyle for Miami, clocking in at 10:15.52, nearly four seconds faster than Cincinnati’s second-place finisher. Peyton Mosbaugh and Morgan Quesnel came in first and second in the 100-yard butterfly. Mosbaugh won the event (56.65) with Quesnel right behind her in second place (56.83).

Ella Moynihan placed second in two events and third in one. Her two second-place finishes were in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.31) and 200-yard freestyle (1:52.95). The third-place finish came in the 100-yard freestyle (52.66).

Jenna Karrow and Taylor LeCount both picked up a win and second-place finish for themselves. In the one-meter dive, Karrow placed first (254.35) and LeCount placed second (242.55). The three-meter dive was flipped, with LeCount in first (243.05) and Karrow in second (238.90).

The men’s best event came in the 100-yard backstroke, where they had a 1-2-3 finish. Jake Precious led the way (52.14), with Max Jelen (52.30) and James Wray (52.54) close behind to round out the top three.

Justin Andrews secured a win of his own in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.68. Wray placed third in the event, touching the wall in 1:55.33.Lucas Brock took silver in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 21.12, just 0.04 seconds behind the first-place finisher. He also clocked in second in the 100-yard freestyle (46.15). Nick Ward was behind him in the race, finishing third (47.09).

Three men picked up a trio of bronze finishes for the RedHawks. Ross Westrick placed third in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:44.01. Hutch Blackstone picked up a third-place finish as well in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.68). Pete Simcox finished third in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 51.54.

Miami’s male divers had their most successful meet of the season, starting with a 1-2-3 finish in the one-meter dive. Sean Sargent placed first (305.40), followed by Harrison Moncino (284.75) and Ryan Nash (283.60). In the three-meter dive, Moncino came in second (318.05) and Sargent in third (315.90).

The RedHawks will be back in action next weekend. The women will compete at home against Akron on Friday, Jan. 20 at 3:30 p.m. and at Toledo on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. The men take on Buffalo at home on Saturday, Jan. 21 at noon.
