Miami Redhawks Roll Over Xavier On Senior Day

OXFORD, Ohio –The Miami University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams beat Xavier University today during their senior day. The men won 180-82 and the women 179-79.

How It Happened:

  • The meet kicked off with the 400 medley relay. The women’s A team placed first with Madeline PadavicSara Lahrach-SanchezHonor Brodie-Foy and Kaylin Herbet coming in at 3:45.57 alongside the B team in third with Chrisna BezuidenhoutEmma SchuelerMakayla Hoehn and Greta Kolbeck finishing in 3:51.91. For the men, the B team took first place with Mason MillerIan WihebrinkGabriel Perseguin and Tegan Barrier (3:20.83) and the A team with Owen BlazerBenjamin EichbergHenju Duvenhage and Ian Kmiliauskis took second place finishing just .01 second behind (3:20.84).
  • Following, in the 1000 freestyle, Casey Stephens took first place for the women (10:41.15) and Yonatan Rosin took first for the men (9:37.41) alongside Tommy Frye in third (9:44.12).
  • In the 200 freestyle the men took the top three finishes with Herczeg in first (1:41.56), Bryce Menchhofer in second (1:42.18) and Scott Spear in third (1:43.63). For the women, Nicole Maier placed first (1:50.06).
  • In the 50 backstroke, Padavic placed first for the women (25.85) alongside Jenna Halliday in third (26.82). For the men, Duvenhage placed first with a time of 22.65.
  • The men had a strong finish in the 50 breaststroke as well with Eichberg in first (26.22), Wihebrink in second (26.33) and Brady Miller in third (26.35). For the women, Schueler placed first (29.70) and Lahrach-Sanchez placed third (29.83).
  • In the 50 freestyle, the women finished with Brodie-Foy in first (23.89), Taylor Connors in second (23.98) and Julia Waechter in third (24.25). For the men, Perseguin took first (21.05) and Kmiliauskis in second (21.21).
  • Miami saw top finishes again in the 100 freestyle with Maier in first for the women (50.27) and Kolbeck in second (52.18). For the men, Kmiliauskis came in first (46.00) and Barrier in second (46.70).
  • In the 100 breaststroke Miami claimed all top finishes again. For the women, Herbert finished first (1:04.68), Natalie Gilson in second (1:05.08) and Lahrach-Sanchez in third (1:05.31). For the men, Wihebrink finished first (56.88), Eichberg in second (57.45) and Allen Cotton in third (57.53).
  • In the 100 IM, Maier finished first (56.78), Herbet in second (57.13) and Ashley Sego in third (59.30) for the women. For the men, Duvenhage came in first (50.29), Cotton in second (51.50) and Blazer in third (52.55).
  • Other first-place finishers were Ella Ziegert in the 100 backstroke (57.34), Audrey Conley in the 500 freestyle (5:15.28), Menchhofer in the 500 freestyle (4:41.41), Reid in the 50 butterfly (25.42) and Perseguin in the 50 butterfly (22.02).
  • Second-place finishes of the day were Halliday in the 100 backstroke (57.36), Ian Van Gorp in the 100 backstroke (52.49), Stephens in the 500 freestyle (5:16.71) and Brodie-Foy in the 50 butterfly (25.43), Reid in the 100 butterfly (57.16) and Blazer in the 100 butterfly (50.23).
  • The final third-place finishers were Hoehn in the 100 butterfly (57.24), Cotton in the 100 butterfly (50.25) and Spear in the 50 butterfly (22.87).
  • The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relay. For the women, the A team, Brodie-Foy, Halliday, Lahrach-Sanchez and Maier finished second with a combined time of 1:35.94 alongside the C team in third with Padavic, Schueler, Connors and Waechter (1:36.39). For the men, the C team placed first with Joe Miller, Barrier, Perseguin, and Herczeg (1:23.42) and the B team in third. Uros Djokovic, Adrian Dulay, Van Gorp and Duvenhage finished in 1:24.75.

Up Next: 
The men and women will compete again next Friday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. during the first day of the Miami Classic at home.

OXFORD, Ohio – Xavier swimming closed out the 2023-24 dual season with a trip to Oxford, Ohio, facing Miami (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon. Xavier collected four first place finishes but fell to the RedHawks on both sides.

Xavier now begins its final preparations for the BIG EAST Championships, set to run from February 28 through March 2 in Indianapolis, Ind.

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kali FischerJordyn LiblerErin Ritz and Olivia Oyster took second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:45.75.
  • Mary Sweetman led Xavier with a time of 10:45.98 in the 1000 free, placing second.
  • Clara Keiser’s time of 1:54.56 in the 200 free led Xavier and was good for second place. Keiser also led Xavier in the 100 free, setting a time of. 52.79 to place third.
  • Reese Turner set a time of 26.72 in the 50 back to place second.
  • Jordyn Libler set a time of 29.79 to place second in the 50 breast.
  • Erin Ritz won the 100 fly with a time of 56.80. Ritz also led Xavier in the 50 fly with a time of 25.90.
  • Molly Dynda led Xavier in the 50 free with a time of 24.68.
  • Julia Sweetman’s time of 58.81 in the 100 back led Xavier and placed third.
  • Olivia Oyster led Xavier in the 100 back with a time of 1:06.02.
  • Charlie Ramey set a time of 5:26.39 in the 500 free.
  • Kate Lair led Xavier in the 100 IM with a time of 1:01.02.
  • Xavier closed out the meet with a first place finish in the 200 free for Olivia OysterKali FischerAlexis Worrall and Reese Turner, setting a time of 1:34.76.
  • Xavier fell, 179-79, to Miami.

  • Matthew Scicchitano led Xavier in the 100 breast with a time of 59.84.
  • Nathan Wall placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.13.
  • Jack Parker led Xavier with a time of 54.21 in the 100 IM.
