OXFORD, Ohio—Miami University men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron announced Wednesday that Dan Carrington will remain on staff as an assistant coach and Jack Eichenlaub has been hired as an assistant coach.
Carrington has been an assistant coach with the RedHawk men’s swimming and diving program the past two seasons. In his time at Miami, the men’s team has produced four All-Mid-American Conference performers, an Olympic Trials qualifier, and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. In Carrington’s first season, Joe Baumgartner seized a pair of MAC Championships in the 50 and 100 freestyle, while the Red and White captured a MAC title in the 200 freestyle relay for the first time in program history.
Prior to his time at Miami, Carrington was an assistant coach with both the men’s and women’s swim teams for four seasons over two stints at Duke University. He also previously served as head coach at Southwestern University and also with USA Swimming’s San Antonio Wave in San Antonio, Texas. Carrington is a 2002 graduate of Ball State University with a degree in chemistry.
“I am very excited for Dan to continue his work with the Miami swimming and diving programs,” said Bonewit-Cron. “He has established himself as a coach with a strong work ethic and someone who thrives in a competitive environment. His work with Miami in many different areas is helpful as he has a good pulse on the program and has helped make the transition seamless. Dan’s keen sense of productivity and proactive approach both on and off deck will be valuable to our overall vision. I look forward to collaborating with Dan on the future of the men’s and women’s teams to provide the best experience for the student-athletes with our program.”
Eichenlaub spent the past two season as a graduate assistant with Nova Southeastern University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving program. He primarily worked with the middle distance and distance swimmers at Nova Southeastern in addition to handling numerous other day-to-day roles within the program. Eichenlaub helped the men’s team to a fourth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships and the women’s team to a Sunshine State Conference title in 2015.
Prior to his time at NSU, Eichenlaub was a volunteer assistant coach at Bloomsburg University where he helped guide the Huskies to 23 new team records and over 85 additions to the program’s all-time top ten list. His coaching experience began when he was the head coach at Sunny Willow Swim Club. Eichenlaub earned an undergraduate degree in communication studies Bloomsburg University in 2014 and was a four-year member of the Huskies’ swim team. He is currently pursing a master’s degree in college student affairs from Nova Southeastern.
“Jack has worked with me for two years, and I am fortunate to have his experience and insight continue as we take on our new roles with Miami swimming and diving,” said Bonewit-Cron. “Jack will be the recruiting coordinator for our combined program and will take the lead on building the future. His awareness of student-athlete welfare and approach to training is an asset to the direction of this program. He takes special care in communicating and relating to the student-athletes, so he will be a valuable resource to our success moving forward.”
