14-year-old Michael Andrew has now officially made NCSA Junior Nationals one of his most succesful overall meets, adding a fourth National Age Group record on Friday night. Andrew completed the second half of his 100 back/100 fly double with a new 13-14 NAG in the butterfly after doing the same in his first race.
Andrew went 47.40 to just sneak under his old NAG record of 47.47 from Winter Juniors last December. He took second in the race to NCAP’s Andrew Seliskar.
In contrast to the 100 back, where his back-half split was most impressive, Andrew got after the front half in this one. He went out in 21.96 and came home in 25.44, about a 3.5 second gain from first split to last.
Observers have noticed that Andrew’s NAGs tend to come three at a time, but Andrew has outdone himself this week, as this was his fourth national record of the meet. He now has the following 13-14 records to his name from NCSAs:
- 200 fly: 1:45.39
- 200 free: 1:38.31
- 100 back: 47.83
- 100 fly: 47.40
Ah come on!!!! I wanted to see a 46! But I guess I can’t be too greedy.
At this rate, you’ll see a 46 the next time he dives in to race a 100 fly…
