Michael Andrew one-upped himself after a record-breaking prelims swim, re-lowering his American Record of 58.19 in the men’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.14, breaking the U.S. Open 50 breast record in the process.
Racing in the second semi-final, Andrew scorched his way out to a massive lead on the opening 50, turning in 26.83 to break his previous U.S. Open Record of 26.84 set in 2018.
Huge for the medley relay
Nah, GB still win
Not if Dressel swims both fly and free. 100% doable and counts as training for the skins races later in the ISL
If MA is 57 capable the Brits are still the heavy favorites?
Depends.. can Peaty drop a 56 flat 55 high split? He usually does not have amazing splits but he did that on ISL.. 53,2 – 56,0 – 50,8 – 46,8: 3:36:80
51.9
57.8
49.2
47.0
Close to second faster for USA
Has James Guy ever split 49??
Also who in the UK is splitting 51.9??
Guess these splits were intended for USA…
50.4 at least for Guy , and 46.5 for scott
Not even expecting any miracles from the US splits
52.0 – 57.5 – 49.5 – 46.8 is a second faster at 3:25.8. Pushing it to the best of splits as you have for the British team
51.7 – 57.2 – 49.0 – 46.5 is 3:24.4
Michael Andrew has saved this relay.
USA are definitely the favorites now. But if you pencil in a 46.1 from Scott again then its definitely possible for GB. Better hope the USA anchor swims on the right side of the lane.
Held is going to be close to sub 47 on the flat start. He’s going to be faster than Scott.
Thanks captain obvious!
Makes sense….if you were 58.14 it’s not far off a 57.
Best wishes to Michael and congratulations on the American record. Michael did it his way, and as “out of the box” as people think about his training, I think the sky’s the limit for him and the best is yet to come!
Peaty lo batte con un braccio legato
Peaty should keep a close eye on Andrew, especially if Andrew breaks 58 tonight. Things could get very interesting in Tokyo.
MA is a great face for the sport. Well spoken, good looking, and hungry. I see him being on the podium in this event.
Peaty has absolutely nothing to worry about I don’t think. It’s not like Arno and Andrew aren’t fast, because they are insane. It’s just peaty is over a second faster than them and has swum better than their best times in season consistently
Yeah, I think it’s a race for silver this year. But given that he’s only 22, I do think in 3 years time in 2024 MA might be ready to potentially give Peaty a real tough race.
Peaty drops a 57 with full beard, a parachute and someone holding his kneeds.. while we are amazed by Arno and Maybe Andrew going sub-58, Peaty might show us a sub-56 split and a 56 low-mid flat start breast..
The competition is slowly getting better, but there’s still a large margin between Peaty and the world. Something would have to happen like an injury, illness, DQ etc. for Peaty to be upset. Not taking away from MA and others, but he’s just that good.
Alright let’s not get too far ahead. I think MA has the potential to get closest to Peaty even more so than Arno. He’s got flat out speed int he first 50 opening to near Peaty level with a 26.8. And with an improving background in the 2 IM his back half integrity should get better but Peaty is a lock.
you can do it michael andrew
Refreshing to see an athlete so open about his goals.
right! I love seeing someone with the guts to tell the world what their goal times are. It gives us something to think and talk about!
