The list of professional athletes attending the American Energy Club Elite Pro Am in Oklahoma City this winter continues to grow. Pan Pacs national team members Michael McBroom and Breeja Larson have now added their names to the list among others, according to meet organizers.
The Pro Am brings together professional and amateur swimmers for a multi-day meet in late December. In its 23rd season, the meet is upping its prize money and moving to a new location, the brand-new Edmond Schools Aquatic Center in Edmond, just outside of Oklahoma City.
You can follow the link above for more information, or check the American Energy Club’s website here. Prize money is as follows:
1st place: $800
2nd place: $500
3rd place: $300
The 1650 counts for double money, and the multi-round 50 free shootout pays $5,000 to the winner, $1,000 to second and $600 to third place. Any meet records yield an extra $200 bonus.
The meet features a different sprint event each year – last year was the 50 fly and this season will be the 50 breaststroke. That event is bringing in a number of high-level breaststrokers including long course national champ Brendan McHugh and recent A&M grad Breeja Larson.
Pro liaison Josh Davis has passed along an updated list of pro athletes committed to attending, which includes the former Olympian himself. The running list is below, with the newest commits in bold:
As I looked into making hotel reservations for this meet, I discovered there is another pro-am meet scheduled at the OCCC venue the same weekend. Based on the info on that website, I’m guessing there was some kind of falling out between the parties involved because it appears rather misleading. Anyway, just wanted to mention that you need to make sure you are signing up for the meet that you think you are!
