Day 2 of the 2014 Bulldog Grand Slam in Athens, Georgia is half way complete, now that prelims have wrapped up. Day 2 features the 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, and the 400 IM.
In the women’s 200 freestyle, nobody was under 2 minutes this morning. Shannon Vreeland had the top qualifying time of 2:00.11 and the rest of the field fell in at 2:00 and 2:01. Cierra Runge and Becca Mann actually tied for 8th at 2:01.99. At this point I am not sure how it will be decided who is in the A-final and who will get bumped into the B-final.
Conor Dwyer and Connor Jaeger wanted to take control of the field early on in the men’s 200 freestyle, finishing at 1:48.67 and 1:48.90, respectively. This final is packed full of Olympian and World Championship team members. The only swimmer that hasn’t been on a world championship team is club wolverines Justin Glanda, who qualified 8th at 1:51.06.
The women’s 100 breaststroke, Annie Lazor had the top time of the morning at 1:10.00. She cut 3.5 seconds to claim the top seed ahead of stand-outs like Micah Lawrence and Emma Reaney.
Nic Fink was 1:02.54 to earn the top seed in the men’s 100 breaststroke. It is interesting to note that Tyler Clary appears to be branching out a little prior to Nationals next month. Although he did not qualify, he did swim the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.44.
Lauren Harrington and Lauren Case had the two fastest times of the morning in the women’s 100 butterfly. Harrington was 1:00.59 and Lauren Case, a 16 year old, was 1:00.62.
Michael Phelps had the fastest time of the morning in the men’s 100 butterfly with a time of 53.11. Qualifying second was Matthew Josa at 53.81. Ryan Lochte finished with the fourht fastest time of the morning, touching the wall at 54.39. That is a solid time for Michael Phelps this morning, and should be fun to watch tonight during finals. Hopefully Ryan Lochte will be a little faster tonight. Lochte seemed a bit rusty but that would make sense after missing time for his industry.
Melanie Margalis earned the top seed in the women’s 400 IM with a time of 4:46.36.
In the men’s 400 IM, the Litherland triplets qualified 1-2-3 in the 400 IM. Jay was 4:24.33, Kevin was 4:29.49, and Mick was 4:30.83. They will have to hold of Tyler Clary tonight, who qualified fourth at 3:31.55.
Finals start tonight at 6pm eastern. Live results are available on Meet Mobile
Full results will be uploaded here after each session.
Anybody know if Dressel swam today and what his results were?

prediction

Is there a live feed for this meet?
Or the sectional meet in florida? Katie Hoff went a 1:58.2 200 free tonight! she is looking very good heading into nationals! I would love to watch both final sessions
No, sadly… I’m P’OD about it too because it’s a big meet!!
In the men’s 400 IM, Litherland ahead of Litherland ahead of Litherland. 🙂
SwimMac elite swimmers were in practice suits so you should see some big drops from Ryan and others tonight.
Definitely, the best races, depth wise, will be the 200 free (men and women), as well as men’s 100 fly.
Don’t think so. Looked like only Humphries, Champer and Smith on deck.
Baurele on deck?
Diana, actually the finals sessions of this meet will be much more fun to watch than the World Cup final (Germany crushing Argentina by ~4-0 like they did last WC).
i’m rooting for Argentina to win this WC final 😀
