Michael Phelps Reborn as a Sprinter: Gold Medal Minute presented by SwimOutlet.com

gold-medal-minute

Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian of all time, appears to have been reborn as a spinter.

Michael Phelps WU by Mike Lewis-11With his 48.8 100m freestyle at the Santa Clara Grand Prix and his 51.6 100m butterfly at the Bulldog Grand Slam, Phelps is on track to swim lifetime best swims in both races at US Nationals in Irvine or the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia.   Without the 400 IM shorting Phelps’ speed, a 46 plus 100m freestyle and 49 plus 100m butterfly could be in the cards by the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. But let’s stay focused on this summer.

My prediction for Phelps:

100m freestyle – 47.87

100m butterfly – 50.49

Low 48 in the 100 free, talkin 48.15 or slightly faster. if he breaks 47 it will be 47.9

100 fly, I need to see more front end speed for me to think he will get to ians 50.4, while at nats he will go 51.1 and as low as 50.9 but maybe at pan pacs he gets lower into 50.6 or .7 range.

exciting seeing him change to sprints. and yes please bring the relay title back to USA.

I call a 48 flat on the 100 free.
I really don’t dare to make predictions on the 100 fly.

Guys,
Reading all your predictions here made me smile. Thanks!
Can we just “FF” this week? I wish time had “FF” button. 🙂
Camera & oxygen tank are all ready for that 100 fly race.

My predictions:
100 free – 47.91
100 fly – 50.60

NBC will be airing the finals on Aug. 9 & 10 (from 4:00 – 6:00pm ET)
This is cool, huh?! Don’t forget to tune in, folks.

i dont see him going sub 48 or sub 51 till the end of the month in australia. MP always saves his season’s bests it for the biggest meet of the year.

On the USA swimming website the world trials are mentioned as national championships.
For the olympic trials I have no idea.
If everything counts, I have a total of 49 US individual titles in long course.
The 50th for next week? 😎

I really predict 48.1 for Phelps at Nationals on 100 free ! In the 400 free relay at Pan Pacs , he will be very pumped up to help it for the win ; now depending on where he will be in that relay , i predict a 47.8 if he is not starting the relay( 47.6 otherwise) . A 50.9 in 100 buterfly is in his reach at Nationals ; 50.6 at Pan Pacs in the final . Will he be on the 3 relays at Pan Pacs ? nobody knows at this point ; it will depend on the other who are qualified as well ( in butterfly and 200 free ) .

Adrian to finish. Always. best anchor in the world by far. Phelps leads off, Feigen 2nd, ervin 3rd, followed by the adrian Anchor. This year, i believe Phelps will be a 47.7 leadoff, Feigin a 47.2, Ervin 47.5, Adrian 46.50. Little optimistic about Adrian, but i think he is MAD about his 46.69 not counting

Ervin has horrible starts though but he is fast in the first 50m

When Michael was talking about that 4×100 from last year, I’m assuming he thought it was Lochte and Feigen who shouldn’t have swam? Adrian’s a given and Ervin was 47.4, which is way better than his flat time.

he defenetly felt that Lochte could have been replaced by somoene else ; Who ? Jones ? Webber Gale ? i really don’t see how could have stepped up to replace Lochte . Feigen was probably not completely on top of his game otherwise Usa was winning . So Feigen is totally ok in my vieuw ; he just needs to show us his 100 individual from last year ( silver medal ) was not a fluke or one shot .

Maybe Ricky Berens, he swam well on the prelim like Ervin did.

i agree for Grevers ! the question is : Can Grevers put up a 47 High on a 400 relay ? when was the last time he did that ? I am not putting down his great qualities as a freestyler but it seems he really trains for the 100 free so far . With His size though , he could be damn fast ….

Grevers-47.5 back in london going second on the relay in the morning when america again went with Lochte for the 4×100 that night
The problem with the American 4×100 relay is not necessarily the personnel but rather the order
in 2013 at worlds would it not have been smarter to lead off with Feigen (who is known for not having relay speed) and anchor with one of the best relay swimmers in recent memory, Nathan Adrian
You can yell out hindsight bias, I’ve felt this way about Adrian anchoring ever since 09 worlds but try and recall the last time you remember Nathan Adrian not putting the relay to bed in the last 4 years, I’ll wait…

I think he meant either Feigen or Ervin

KD

I think he barely breaks 48 in the 100 free, maybe 47.7 at best, but realistically 47.9. 100 fly 50.8-51.1 range.
