Michael Phelps Wins Golden Goggle For Male Athlete Of The Year (Video)

MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR – MICHAEL PHELPS

Michael Phelps was received the Golden Goggle award for the male athlete of the year after posting the top time in the world in three separate events at the 2015 US National Championships in San Antonio, Texas. Phelps also won the same award following the 2014 Season.

Phelps’ season was very up and down. Early in the season, he was arrested for a DUI and suspended from competition and removed from the 2015 World Championship Team. He was able to rebound from that, however, and posted the fastest butterfly times of anyone in the world over the last 6 years. Outside of the pool, he also got engaged and found out he was going to be a father.

James.
I have to respectfully disagree.
Lochte did not have the only gold medal for the US men. Wilimovsky went gold in the 10K open water event.
And he iced the competition. I think he had a great year Kazan.

Meh.

Don’t really agree. Sure he went fast, but didn’t win medals at a major meet.

Can’t really say that anyone had a great year in Kazan. Lochte had the only gold medal for the US men. Sure US Nationals isn’t really high profile during a world championship, but Phelps shined against top competition none the less and would most likely have walked away with a couple golds in Kazan as well if he was allowed.

And it’s because USA Swimming banned him from doing so. This is the way to compensate, I guess.
